MSN messenger and selling

Hi guys

This is a general posting, based upon the experiences i have had over the last few days from ppl on the ukbf who shall remain nameless.

I do not know everyones view on this but. I do not mind ppl from here adding me to their msn listings if it is just to say hello and have a general chat.
What i do mind is ppl using my msn for hard salemans techniques trying to sell me something.
On more than one occasion i have had ppl from here push and push hard to get me to sign up to their schemes or buy there product.
Not only do i think this is unprofessional, but it makes me less likely to buy.
And the ppl i refer to know who they are.
Surely this is no different to spamming.

Likewise if i add you to my list it is for an imformal chat. I already know what services you offer, if iwant them i will ask.
Parties i refer to will notice i did not try too hard selling you my product.

i did not want to post this, but incase anyone else is thinking on doing the same. These please do not bother, i will block you. It is for the same reason i do not give my home number out. Perhaps the best course of action is to remove my msn details, which i do not want to do.

Maybe you should not make your msn detials public? Only offer it out if someone asks.

I do know what you mean but with my only experience of this I have to admire the individual for his persistance and I am about to order some stuff.

Al - simply use the MSN block feature and don't feel bad about doing it.

As it's not spamming or pestering through the board theres not alot we can do about it from this end (I know you weren't asking us to)

Maybe try PM'ing the person and asking them to stop.

I dont advertise my MSN details but will give them out to someone who I want to talk to. What I do find annoying though is when they pop on every 5 minutes to just say hi. When I'm on my PC I'm busy not just sitting around checking out fun sites or surfing.

I must say its only one user who is quite persistant with me ;) Maybe as the admin here people must be leaving me alone.
As Rob says, don't feel afraid to use the block feature. It works :)

I use MSN for both work and private, it is quite a useful tool if used correctly. It can become a pain though when people hassle you for no reason. That said I don't mind sensible people saying Hello occasionally, but as Claire says herself some of us are busy when at our PC.

You can get a neat little program to allow you to run 2 msns at the same time which is great for me becaue I can spearate business and pleasure :)

I found that Trillian sometimes "missed" the first message someone sent to me, but not the "are you ignoring me" message they sent afterwards :)

I have a couple of people from here on MSN with no problems, they were added for genuine reasons. If anyone started spamming me on msn I'd just tell them whre to go and block them.
As for Claires comments regarding being messaged when busy, why not set yourself to busy on msn? or even "appear offline"
People on mine that know me, know that 99% of the time I'm showing as away, which means wither I'm away (really...) or doing something trivial but canmessage me no probs, if I'm set to busy, it means urgent messages only, and if I'm REALLY busy and dont want to be disturbed, I set myself to "appear offline". Sometimes however I dont mind the odd "hi" form people if I'm bored!
I used to use trillion when I had ICQ and MSN, poor ICQ seems all but dead now :(

My PC is on all day long, so people sometimes say hi when I'm not actually here. Most of the time I set it to appear offline as it really bugs me though. Even my mother drives me mad, but thats my fault I suppose as I taught her how to use it LOL

MSN is quite good for the odd question that people need clarifying. Less personal than a phone call but still useful.

I've only had to bar one person from UKBF - they became quite abusive when I said I could get the product they were after me to buy nealy half price else where!

Even with a friendly post, I dont think your going to get anywhere on here now. Calling the owner of a site we all have the utmost respect for a W****R will get you absolutly nowhere. I only wish I'd read this post before giving you all the advice I did in your introduction post.

Now we have two culprits for MSN messenger sales. You all know who the other one is and he's still doing it! I've blcoked him now, but he keeps trying to get me to re-add him!

Well here I am in my hotel room in Cyprus on a painful dialup internet connect via my mobile phone!
Brian has contacted me by PM and MSN apologising, I guess he didn't realise at the time that spamming would get back to the forums and mentioned in public.

As I said to Brian, if he sticks around and networks and builds up a reputable reputation he may get work from others on here... but he will have some PR work to do to repair a reputation after spamming everyone via MSN and PM on here (I had a few PMs from other members saying they have PM spammed).

Let's see if he does stick around and become a sensible UKBF networker.
