I make wedding stationery and greeting cards and I'm having an exhibition soon. My husband is an excellent potrait painter and illustrator and he was thinking of painting some couples on their wedding day and displaying the portraits at the exhibition. The idea is that there might be people who would be interested in having a wedding portrait. Do you think its a good idea?

To build some initial credibility, why not have your son attend weddings in the background, quietly working on his stuff? Alternatively, maybe he could put together some illustrations based on wedding photos. That way, he's offering his work for sale after the event and not before it. Not everyone would buy, admittedly, but the numbers may be higher than those who agree to pay before. Right now, he has no track record.

I would offer it done from one of their wedding photos - no one will want to sit and pose for a painting for hours on their wedding day.

I'd agree with rob, I think it's a fabulous idea and something that people may want to purchase for the happy couple as a gift - but doing it from one of their photos would be a better idea due to (as rob says) no one wanting to post for a portrait on their big day.

blaze I'd love to see some of your work.
