View Full Version : Best advert positioning?

Hi,
I am considering booking a full page advertisement in a magazine which goes to Music Teachers in the Far East.
I think I can have either the inside back page or the back of the back page.
I know that if people open up a magazine then their eyes alight on the right hand page.
...but then again this goes to all teachers who have entered students into exams and I suspect many do not open it as it is not a magazine they will have paid for or subscribed to. And that makes me thing the back may be better.
Has anyone any views or research on this to help me decide?
Thanks
Christine

Hi Christine
Research shows it's much better to go for the back cover than the inside back, that why newspapers and magazines normally charge a premium for having the back cover spot.
Of course what's also important is to have a well designed ad with a strong call to action and clear benefits.
Best wishes

Just a further thought on this - if the target readership reads from right to left, would that not have a bearing on where one advertises on the page?

Hi JayKay
Christine mentions she's looking at a full page ad....so page positioning isn't really relevant in this case.

If you decide against the having your advert on the back cover (for whatever reason) I would strongly advise that you have a 3/4 page rather than a full page advert so you would get editorial around your advert. The reason we all buy magazines is to read the features. The people who open the magazines and read the adverts first are:-
1 The advertiser
2 The advertisers competitors
3 Those of us in advertising
The people you are advertising to will want to read the editorial. If there is no editorial content on your page there is less reason for you potential customer to stay on that page and discover your services through great copy and a call to action (outside back covers are different to this for obvious reasons, hence the difference in price)
I have no experience in advertising in the far east so am unable to shed any light on whether the audience read from right to left would have any bearing (great point though Jaykay!)

have to agree - without information / editorial advertisements as such are not in depth enough to keep me entertained. One page on the back of a mag is just like a flyer to me
