Hi there,

Am hoping someone can offer a little advice....

I'm learning some web design skills (HTML, CSS, Photoshop graphics etc - v basic!) and would like to know more about SEO and Online Marketing. I've read a few online articles and would like to know more. I've been on Amazon and there a few books on the subject - can anyone recommend any for a beginner? I know it's difficult as the subject changes so quickly that the books become irrelevant so was hoping for some recommendations.

I'm particularly interested in how to make money from blogging (or if it's possible at all!!) and how to increase traffic etc etc - general stuff that every beginner asks!!

I'm not under the illusion that blogging is an easy way to earn money or that I could generate an actual income but I would like to know more. Is there a generally accepted figure that can be earnt depending on visitors to your site, ie x amount of visitors = £x per week based on PPC advertising?

Thanks for any replies!!

It is all about the market. Google will pay you a % of the value of the click. currently this is around 70% for decent adsense clients.

The trick in blogging is to research a market, take into account the cost per click (although they will be paying less on the content network than the search network) then aim for some phrases after having reasearched the ones to go for.

I have a single site that earns me about £70 a month form a single phrase. multiply this and Bobs your uncle.

Easiest way to learn SEO is ask, and do. Set up a site, ask a question, do what is said, measure the effect. testing yourself is the only real way to know what is right and what is wrong.

Yeah I think I agree with you there. I've been trying to get an overview of how it all works but I think once the site is finished and I have something to work with it will become clearer, rather than talking in abstracts and trying to learn theoretically. (I'm hoping anyway!).

Thanks again.
