This is a great technique that I have heard about a few times and I implement myself. This works really well, especially on long term goals that you think you will never accomplish. It breaks massive tasks down into daily tasks that are easy to keep on top of and ensure the final goal is attained.
Firstly you need to draw 4 circles on a piece of A4 paper, above the top left one write “daily goal”, the one next to it write “weekly goal”, under that “monthly goal” and bottom left “yearly goal”. Now draw an arrow from daily to weekly, weekly to monthly and finally monthly to yearly. The trail should starts at the top left of the page and works its way round to the bottom left.
In the yearly goal write whatever it is you want to accomplish. For this example lets say “gross £50,000”, this is the goal that you are aiming for. You can not do this without breaking it down, so if you want to make £50,000 per annum, you need to make about £4200 a month. “Earn £4200” should now be written in your monthly goal circle. To make £4200 a month you need to make £1050 a week, like before fill out your weekly goal with this amount. Finally to accomplish earning £1050 a week you need to make £210 per day, this should now occupy the last circle.
This has now taken a massive goal and broken it down into monthly, weekly and daily targets which are much easier to accomplish. This works really well because all you have to do to accomplish the final goal is just to do daily one and all the others will automatically be done. If everyday you aim to make £210, then you will achieve you weekly goal, if your weekly targets are met then so will your monthly, then of course your annual target will be met.
The best thing to do is to print this out and keep it in view at your office. It will remind you that massive milestones are not reached overnight, it is a process of moving towards it day by day.
This system can be used for a whole range of things, work related and personal. Someone I know uses it for weight loss, he wants to loose 4 stone this year, this is 4.7lbs a months, 1.2 lbs (or 19 oz) a week and just under 3oz a day. He just concentrates on loosing 3ozs a day because this is a very realistic goal he can achieve, if he does that and sticks to it he will loose more than 4 stone in a year.
If you have a massive project or goal then try doing this, you will be surprised on how you can break things down and how massive distances can be covered if you take it one step at a time.
