Hi guys.

My plan is to launch my site at March 25 selling products. What would be the best way to make sure that people know about my site (marketing?)

Welcome along.

Yes, direct mail would be the best route to take. Please let me know if we can help.

There are lots of things you can do, but they will depend on who your customers are, what you're selling, and how much you can afford to spend.

Initially, do some pay per click advertising (Google AdWords etc), but also get a search engine optimiser (SEO) to do some work on your site to help it get to the top of search engine results. There are loads of SEOs on UKBF - AliV8, Sirearl, Old Welsh Guy to name but a few - worth talking to them I would say :) If you don't have a budget for this, do lots of studying until you've learnt the basics and can attempt to do your own SEO. UKBF is very useful for picking up SEO tips - check out the SEO, PPC and online marketing forum.

Also, make sure your sales copy is well-written. Avoid using your manufacturers'/suppliers' standard 'blurb' as product descriptions - write something unique which is appropriate to the audience and really sells the products.

Just to slap your wrist a little, though... you're launching in 3 weeks and you don't yet have a marketing plan? Shame on you! Marketing should've been in your business plan, before you got as far as building your website - naughty naughty! :D

What sort of products will you be selling?

As already mentioned above you should get some AdWords campaigns going but it would help a lot more to know if you are targetting businesses or consumers?

There are many aspects to who and how to target so give us some more info and I am sure you can get some more helpful replies from us all :) Good luck

If it's an ecommerce site then a solid SEO strategy is pretty vital and if budget allows, some pay per click advertising, to bring in instant traffic. Depending on what you are selling then off-line marketing might be a waste of time.
