Hi all, :|
This is my first thread on here, I'm hoping that someone out there can give me some advice on my Tax Return. I've been asked by HMRC to complete a SA return for 2008/2009. I'm not self-employed and don't own any property or shares or anything, but I've done a bit of globetrotting recently so maybe that's why. I spent the second half of 2008 (from Sep onwards) in Australia, and I've been living in France since November 2009. Anyway, my main questions about the Tax Return are:
1. Where should I put my income from the time when I worked in Australia? Does it go under section 1 - Employment, or section 4 - Foreign? Also, all of the boxes on the form are in pounds sterling, what should I do as my income was in Aussie dollars?
2. I'm also a bit unsure about the 'Residency' form. I went through the questionnaire and from what I gather I'm 'ordinarily resident' in the UK, but not 'domiciled'. Also, should I apply for 'split-year treatment'? That sounds painful. Has anyone out there gone through this kind of thing before?
As I said, this is the first time I've been asked to do this. I've read carefully through all of the notes, and it still seems a bit of a nightmare. Any help or advice at all from anyone would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Take care
