Can someone recomend a reasonably priced logo/company identity designer please? [Archive]

Hi Folks

Just as the question states I need someone to recomend a reasonably priced ideally UK based person/company to design my company Identity and logo, the budget is not high and Ideally would like to spend less than 60 pounds if I can anyone willing to help or offer recomendations please let me know any heads up is most appreciated and diposit can be made immidiatly if I like your portfolio and price.

If it's for more than a hobby business, you ought to consider upping your budget if you can; this is your public face, your identity, the first thing a prospective client sees. It's very important.

We had ours designed by Dan at Shell Creative (http://www.shellcreative.co.uk) - highly recommended. Got his name through Stugster who is a forum member here.

You are quite right, I'm know they used to be free! Oh well as someone else has mentioned there are plenty of free logos out there.

I've just used Amy here for a logo design.

I was very sceptical because of the cheap prices, you get what you pay for and all that, but the service and finished product (logo) where first class.

I highly recommend Orangutan Army.

Sorry, i'm sure you will of heard this before but... pay peanuts get monkeys. People pay up to £3,000+ for work like this. Not saying you should at all but surely at least £300 shold be spent too get it right the first time!! As one of our designers says to keep in mind as well, fashion's fade where style remains!

Why should we pay at least £300 ? is that a magical figure that has to be paid before anyone will do anything decent for you ?

Fair comment, not an argument :-) just still think and always will that you get what you pay for. For less than that i dont think you will get a full logo set which is alot of work. Its not as simple as just getting a jpeg and getting on with it. We offer (and i promise this isn't spam as we wouldn't do it for £300 really) a full report on how we get to the designs we came up to with the research we conduct etc. First appearance really does matter. Lets be honest, how many hours work are going to be done for a £70 job? Just before people say aswell, "you must be a very slow team" we're not. Just put 110% in to every job.

My thoughts exactly. I havent been in business for long but one of the first things people told me about branding was that your logo/branding/business cards represents your company to a client/potential client when you are not sitting in front of them.

Surely worth more than a £60 investment?

I still say go with Amy, it's the logo you get that is important - not the price you had to pay to get the logo . . .

Yes and once you've been in business a while, you will also realise SEO is a just a lotta voodoo bullsh*t!!

Dont take this the wrong way Dorset but if thats all you are paying for a logo then maybe you dont know what you get with a top range logo designer. If you do get the following then i'm sorry i'm wrong but i cant see it for that cost. How about a review on how to use your logo, ie, diffrent sizes for different material and different shades. Different file types also for different uses + lots lots more. It shouldn't be as simple as just getting a simple jpeg of yor new 'unique' logo. Surely we should be offering people advice on how to make money, not just save money.

Why would someone want to pay a logo designer, as part of their fee for designing a logo, for advice on making money??

He means you'll get (amongst other things) a style guide for your logo / branding so that any time you need to use your logo on a leaflet, advert, busines card, billboard, whateer, you know what colours should be used, the spacing requirements to avoid "diluting" the brand with encroaching text, the typefaces used, etc.

Essentially, you get everything you wouldn't think of if you focused purely on the logo.

You get information on how to use your brand to the best effect, reasons why - you know, someone actually thinking your brand through instead of just slapping the logo into a word document, aligning it right and hey presto.

But hey, if a 60 quid logo does the job for YOU then fair enough :) There's definitely more to BRANDING A COMPANY than producing a logo though!

Hi folks

I have looked at most if not all the portfolios that you have recomended and we have narrowed it down, to 3 companies/indeviduals who whom we will then chose one today and make arrangement with them.

You have raised some nice points especially with regards to the cost/budget vs the finished product but its our belief that if you can get something that looks great for a lower budget then as a start up operation it should not matter at all as we have seen some really really impressive portfolios and again thanks all for the recomendations they are well recieved and appreciated.

If you do get the following then i'm sorry i'm wrong but i cant see it for that cost.

If all i got was a .jpg that someone aligned right in Word then I would accept you had a point - but in this case - your wrong :)

I have every file type I am likely to need,I can have my logo on a business card or letterhead or in 3 foot high letters on my van with no loss in quality.

Yes £60 does the job for me - and I expect it has done the job for countless others too. If someone charges a high price for the same product it does not neccessarily mean they are any better at producing that product, or that the lower cost one is inferior.

Sounds like the maybe more established folks not liking the competition from up and coming folk . . .

I still say go with Amy :)

Of course you can spend hundreds or thousands on branding with various reports and market research all taken into account.

Look at the London 2012 Logo, that's surely the best logo since sliced bread? After all, you get what you pay for don't you?

It's all subjective and there will always be 'snobs' who dissect every detail but really most people will not understand all the supposed technical detail and will either like it or not. Like any kind of Artwork.

Asda seem to do ok without any logo, many designer clothes labels are just a font. Reputation is more important than a logo.

How many people use Fedex each day? I bet most of them don't even realise the clever logo design. And those who do, is that a reason to choose them rather than UPS or DHL?

All very interesting, all very persuasive, but...
...amongst other things, I am looking for a logo, a brand, etc etc but wher do I go?

It has been mentioned on here:'you can pay upwards of £3,000 for a complete work up, or £60 for a logo design' (paraphrased).

So, let's say I engage Fred Bloggs design, who says he will design a logo and brand for £500. I tell give my brief, answer all questions etc etc, then I fork out £500 and let him get on with it.

It might take a week, with a few revisions and end up looking like a pretty unsavoury dogs dinner (to my mind). What happens then - his concept of what I want and mine are totally different and he misses the mark completely.

Do I get my money back? Or does he say the £500 is for the work I put in and is not refundable?

Or am I missing the point?

The guy is based in India, but he does really good work, and really cheap.
