i'm just getting in to adding affiliate links to some of my websites (as work is quiet due to the snow and such..infact..it's rather dead at the moment ) but anyway, a four day overview of Web Impressions for a single advertising page looked like this:
19th Feb- 33 impressions
20th Feb- 80 impressions
21st Feb- 30 impressions
22nd Feb- 36 impressions
so having had no money generated from any of that i presume i need to aim for hundreds of impressions per day to get a sale? commission?

Average conversion ratios are between 1% and 10%, although this can vary massively depending on what your aims are for the website. It might be worth you considering:
* Different ways to produce a response from your visitors.
* Options to capture their details so that you can follow them up at a later date with well written content such as a newsletter at a later date.
One idea could be some type of e-book that is sent via e-mail. You could look at something like this for a competition too:

If I had a 1% conversion rate on affiliate programs, I'd be a very rich man.

That's true. A big factor in conversion rates are the quality of traffic you get. If you are a just putting any old affiliate link on your website, the quality of referrals will not be go good. If your affiliate links refer highly targeted traffic, then you will see an increase in your conversions. Also, it's worth noting that highly targeted traffic is generated from highly targeted content.
