Hi all,
I need a little help understanding why a site that I am looking to buy isn't getting many hits. The site in question is number one on google for a search term that according to google keywords gets 60,500 a month. However the acually site only gets around 400 UV a month, I would of expected it to get around 10,000 hits a month or am I expecting to much?
The site appears number one one google for the phrase "mini helicopter".
The only reason why I think it may not be getting many hits is beucase in the site description it says its a price comparison not a site where u can buy helicopters from, but would this make a differance? I thourght that people would just automatically click on the top result.
anyway I hope you guys can help
many thanks
Joe
ps, i know the site is rubbish lol

Answered you own question there.
People click on the result that looks most relevant to their query. If the #1 spot looks rubbish then they will move down the list. A grweat page title and description combination can steal click from higher ranked sites.
And yes, the site is rubbish. :)
BTW, rotor not rotar.

also the search for that phrase is 6,600 not 60,500 That is the braod match figure.

Phrase match is only 2433 and you could expect about 50% CTR from that number.

Agree with all of the above - (except the phrase match figure).
6,600 exact match searches - we would usually expect between 10% - 25% click rate for a number 1 spot in Google. This would be instantly reduced with your page description (unless someone was looking for a price comparison site).
If you are thinking of buying the site as an affiliate website then an optimistic conversion would probably be 10% (could be a lot less) therefore of the 660 people clicking through (used from the figures above) you would get approximately 66 buying @ £20 average = £1320 x 8%(?) = £105 per month.
Bear in mind that a 10% conversion could be wildly optimistic (I have known affiliate sites with less than 1% conversion rates).

6,600 exact matches was for January. If you look how the search trend varies over the year you'll see Dec/Jan are where all the searches seem to occur with not much else for the rest of the year.

Just out of interest would you use the phrase match figure over the exact match figure?
Also - 50% CTR for a top ranked listing? That seems very high in my experience.

50% was a rounded up figure, using my tool the number of clicks the top ranked site can expect from this could be 1021 so just under 50%
Exact would give you 891 searches with an expected CTR of 374.

Thank guys for the information, if the website is getting 400 hits from 6400 that does seem more accurate and yes that could increase with a better description. However are u able to tell me what tracker you use to find out the searches or did I miss read google keywords. Cheers

I would be interested to know what resources can be used to find out how much traffic particular sites are getting - any links? :)
