Firstly great board you have here!

I realise now I should've phoned the tax people to register self employed but I decided to print off the forms and post it to them as I had a bunch of letters to post that day.

I sent the form off correctly filled in around the 17th december, due to the number of bank holidays and possible decrease in staff over the period I didnt expect to hear back until early Jan latest. Previous dealings with government departments has proved they're not the quickest in sorting things like this out, there's no problem with the postal service as Ive setup several other things so Im guessing it's stuck in their system somewhere.

Should i have heard back by now? I dont want to have to phone up and go through the registration process only to then find the postal registration drop through the door!

Today is the 16th working day since sending it although a few of those have been bank holidays.

Hi Stevey

Dont worry it takes ages. They will send you out some sort of letter to confirm at one point.

Give them a call anyway and they will be able to tell you if they have received it or not and answer anymore questions you have.

Their telephone service is really very good and friendly.

Best of luck

I sent off my form at the end of Novemeber and still have had nothing back.

I was seeing a business advisor at the Inland Revenue this morning and she said it takes about 2 months, plus my business advisor at Business Gateway has told me she's heard of it taking 3 months. So I shouldn't worry just now, it should turn up eventually!

Ber in mind that the deadline for tax returns is the 31st Jan so it's their busiest time. I was in te tax office today filling mine in and they were swamped. As you wont need to do a tax return until 2006/2007 your not a priority case.

Just keep trading, make sure your books are in order and they'll get to you eventually.
