Hi Lee
Have you thought much about what types of people use you the most, where they are based, what their properties are like, and why they used you in particular instead of your competitors? If you can figure this out then you can do more of it :)
I would imagine that new build properties might be a good place to target, perhaps leaflets, or telemarketing by locations.
Twitter might be good too as a free resource that you could use.
Good luck
:)

Hi Maxine
I seem to get a lot of old people for some reason, some of which struggle to walk never mind go up a loft ladder.

Hi
As suggested it's a good idea to work out the most likely people to be interested in your products.
If you can also think about the other types of business that these people would use you might be able to arrange some advertising through these other businesses.
You might also consider if there are some obvious businesses in related areas to yours that might be interested in some joint venture type activities.
Of course there is also the networking opportunity with business clubs etc, These work well for some people.

Yellow pages/yell.com, google maps for a local listing, leaflets in a local area (especially brand new houses as you don't generally get loft ladders in new homes).

Whilst not an exhaustive list, I would try some of the following:
- Try Google Ads, tightly targeting your local area and for the common search terms that bring paying punters to your site
- I would identify an angle about your business that the media would be interested (ever found something funny/valuable in a loft whilst fitting a ladder)
- See what reciprocal advertising you could do with local companies, e.g. you hand out carpet fitter leaflets to your punters and the carpet fitter hands out your flyers to their punters?
- Agree with Yell etc, I think your kind of biz is actually one of very few that does well out of advertising in Yellow Pages etc
- I spotted recently that B&Q now sometimes invite DIY "experts" into the store for demo's. Although you are technically teaching people how to do your job, you may pick up work this way, and at very least, get your name out there.
Hope this helps.
