Hi Guys

How accurate is the Adword keyword tool and the best way to use it.

I have a keyword Contract car hire the tool says 27,100 local searches (Broad match) 4400 (Exact Match)

I rank position 4 page 1 of Google and my analytics show that i got 84 visits for the search in the last month

what would be the reasons of the low visits for that search term

1: Page description
2: inaccurate data from Adwords tool
3: Innacurate data from Google analytics
4: is 84 visits about right for a search term of that volume
5: a bit of all the above

What is the best way to improve on the above

In Analytics have you got your keywords in 3 search terms?

Contract car hire - generic search term
"Contract car hire" - phrase match
[Contract car hire] - exact match

How long has your site been running and how long have you had Analytics installed for?

My site has been running analytics for about 6 months now and the figures i gave are per rolling month

As for the search terms no im looking overall, do not know how to change those settings but will look now

Taking into account percentage distribution of click through rates in the top four positions, not an exact science but generally more people are more likely to click on position 3 than 4, more people are more likely to click on position 2 than 3, and a lot more people are more likely to click on position 1 (as much as 7 times (http://www.redcardinal.ie/google/12-08-2006/clickthrough-analysis-of-aol-datatgz/) more) and then there are the people who will click lower down below position 4, then that gives a figure more around the 1000 mark, which is still a lot less than 4400.

So where are the other 3400 searches going?

I would describe it as:

3. misleading data from adwords tool

Google adwords stats data should be taken with a pinch of salt. Those 4400 searches are not all real potential searchers who want to click on results. For a start they are rounded figures, a progression of rounded numbers like 3,600 ... 4,400. A good proportion will also be site owners or their SEO companies regularly checking their positions for that term (possibly using automated rank checking software), site owners or their adwords companies regularly checking their ads are coming up, and possibly even some content network adsense (http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=1137575#post1137575) data in there too.
