Hi from a very sunny but cold Portugal. I am a ex-Londoner who fled the city life to set up home with husband and cats in a remote part of Portugal. I have a business, Red Box Virtual Office, which provides business support to individuals and other businesses when they need it most. Word processing, proof reading, invoicing, that sort of thing.

It's been quite a challenge to do this in a country where I am unsure of the bureaucracy and my language skills are not what I'd like them to be. But I now have a network of friends and colleagues that I hope will grow, with the help of forums such as this.

Here is to a great 2006.
Regards
Emma

Hi Emma

Welcome to the forums.

I lived and worked in France for 5 years and completely understand how difficult it is to do that kind of thing in a foreign country and language.
Even the simplest of tasks takes on a whole new challenge !

Best of luck and dont hesitate to get in touch.

welcome,

i have nothing but praise for people who set up in a new country, never mind those who open a new business abroad

good luck for 2006 :D

Oooo Welcome to the forum, you lucky lady!!!

You picked a lovely spot to settle - we have a house in Praia Del Rey and go most years.

I used to have a Virtual Assistant business, so know the challenges you face there as well, but you will make many useful contacts on this forum.

Praia del Rei, not in that league! Nice there though, and will be even handier once the airport at Otta is up and running. We have friends who have a house there too.

Errrm ... maybe I didn't explain very well, as it is not only mine it is a family house. However, it has always been a worry that if I wanted to take a holiday there, we have no phone line etc. as it is for relaxing and I can't run my business. Now I know who to divert my phones to and where to pick up my emails!!!!!!!

Excellent!

In all seriousness though, I would highly recommend doing some sort of marketing in Praia Del Rey and the new one in Obidos Lagoon, as there is some SERIOUS money (none of it mine, I might add! ) in those resorts and a lot of Brits who live there either all year or for the summer, who would find your service useful.
