Hello,
I am the creator of www.ukfreepages.co.uk. A site where you can get a free web page and directory entry.

The site is currently promoted using google adwords and banner advertising. I have over 100 registered users. I am trying to get the site promoted in the press.

Because the site is general I need to know how to attract advertisers to my site. One of the benefits of advertising is that you get your advert shown on someone elses web page. The idea being that serious users will promote their own web pages and thus be promoting the adverts.

Because I have limited space on web pages I have to make careful use of advertising space. I think that advertising by county would be of most benefit to my advertisers and pages in their own counties will show their adverts. Do you think this is the best way to target my advertising?

I need a way to encourage users to sign up for advertising and could either charge a fixed monthly fee for advertising or could implement a pay per click advertising system. If i opted for pay per click users would need to pay me a small amount in advance which would be held in an account and be debited when their adds are clicked. I could base the pay per click charge on the number of web pages on which their advert appears, or i could implement a bidding system.

What do you think? Am I on the right track? Do you think pay per click takes the risk out of
advertising?

Any opinions very welcome as they will reflect the development of my website.
Cheers

Re Advice.

Hi Richard - am I reading right in that you are currently using adwiords to drive traffic and are also considering offering an PPC solution on your site?

Driving traffic to your site should be relatively simple - volumes of over 700k visitors a month are easily achievable at sub 4ppc - if you were going down this route it would be sensible to monetise those visitors in a more structured way - to ensure you at least earned your money back (perhaps by supplying results from a search feed from one of the bigger engines ;))!

Offering PPC, has a few issues that you would have to overcome - first, the technology to drive the system, particularly the bidding program, and secondly, creating a 'value add' over and above your competitors, Google et al.

Gimme a shout sometime to discuss if you want.

Regards
Rob

Rob,
yes you are right. Im currently bidding 10p per click on google for the term "free web page" with some success. Can you get it cheaper for me? If so can you explain how?
Yes I would have to develop my own pay per click system. I am a software developer and already have ideas as to how to implement it.
It just really weather people are more likely to sign up for a PPC advertising system than a fixed cost banner add system which i currently in place.
Cheers
Richard

How much does it cost to advertise on the left side?

Lisa,
If you or anybody else is interested contact me privately and we can discuss rates. My current thinking is £30 a month to advertise on all pages on the website, but this is open to negotation.

Richard

Hi Richard, can you PM, there are few ideas I can share with you.

Hi Lisa, there are 2 sponsored link areas, down the right hand side and also, in a blue bar occasionally seen on the left side - we have a client who often 'blue bars' for very little money (and we're talking about Google here). All other results are achieved through SEO generally, although this is not my field!

Excuse my ignorance, but wouldn't 700k visitors at 4ppc cost you £28,000?

You could always advertise here and let me do all the hard work AND get a lift for your business when it is listed as one of those that helped me fundraise £1/2 million for charity!

I'm hoping to get the traffic up to 10,000 clicks a day within the next 3 months.

I'm curious, on average, how many clicks a day are you getting at the moment?
