Hi everyone, i need some ideas on how to raise some money in the local area. There is an old minors welfare near where i live that the local area want turned into a local welfare with activities for the public.

We want the new building to have a games room with pool, snooker, slot machines, air hockey etc. A ten pin bowling room, activity rooms for activities like karate, pilates etc, a gym. You know the sort of thing we are thinking of.

There is a group of 5 from the area trying to raise the money for such a project. I thought i would ask on here as everyone from UKBF seem so knowledgable and helpful.

Please can anyone give me any advice on such a project. This is not for personal gain, therefore is not a business venture. It is for the community.

Any advice would be great.

Jason

Why not try contacting the BBC, it's the sort of thing they love making programs about.

I have mentioned that i want to raise funds for this project. How could i raise money from outside the community? I mean there are roughly 100,000 people living in our community, if everyone gave a pound that is no where near enough for this project, and not EVERYONE will donate to the project.

Please throw some ideas in.

I would suggest you try contacting your local authority who is responsible for youth/community/social services as well as local charities that cover youth work etc

Pleasure..

If you give me your nearest town/city I can find the details of your nearest CVS that may be able to help especially if it is for a community benefit. You could get local businesses to sponsor - worth contacting your local Chamber of Commerce.

Also try http://www.j4b.org.uk which allows you to do a search by region etc. Most CVS's have access to a database like J4B for finding sources of funding for charitable/community benefit.

If it is sports related you can contact Sports for All / Award for All. I can find the websites if you like. They give up to £5k for regional projects

I am chair of a charity related to sailing so I know the sources available.
