Today I chanced a visit to a drive through McDonald's for lunch. When I received my order I noticed it was heavier than it should be. Not wanting to delay the traffic behind me, I moved off and checked the bag. Sure enough, I'd received an extra cheeseburger and large fries.
Of course I was in a dilemma! Should I have taken the bag in and handed in the extra items? Could there have been a 'special offer' I hadn't noticed?
I felt it was best to keep the extras. I didn't want to run the risk of embarrassing a staff member or getting someone into troube for giving out the wrong order. I'm glad I have such a compassionate nature for McDonald's staff
What would you have done?

i would have gone round to the drive through mike and sang, "da, da, da, daaaaaa. I'm loving it". :D
Seriously though, I read in Fast Food Nation that Mcdonalds does not make the majority of its money from food now, it is the worlds largest landlord due to all the franchise properties it has.
Plus, makes up for all the times they forget my BBQ sauce. Swings and roundabout and all that.
Thinking about it... if you wanted to get some PR you could make a big show of it playing on your conscience and press release the fact that you gave them the money... leave it a few weeks for maximum effect.
Make a nice regional filler article.

I'd have shared it with my dog, then there would be nothing to feel guilty about...the dog ate it

I would have done what you did Nigel. Usually I find it takes longer through the drive through to get served, if they mess up after making me wait, tough!

It depends on how hungry I was at the time.
If I was hungry enough, I would have eaten it all, then sought out the nearest church and immediately confessed my dispicable sin to a priest. Having being absolved of this terrible deed, I would feel reassured that my place in the queue before the pearly gates was safe.
If I wasn't really that hungry, I would have flogged the extras to the person behind me in the queue for half the price of that which McD was charging. Then I would have sought out the nearest church and immediately confessed my dispicable ......

I would've posed as a McDonalds worker and sold the extra things to the next car in the queue 8)

I believe it's their informal policy that you can keep anything they give you in error. That's certainly the case around here.
Also, the meal is free if they don't give you a correct receipt.

The one time I got an extra drink, I queried it and was told to keep it.

If you had gone back in they would have told you to keep it, after all it would be against Health and Safety to re-sell it so it would have only gone in the bin.
I would have eaten it all up, rubbed my tummy with glee and driven off.

Ah, feeling much better knowing that I'm 'normal' after all.
No correspondence entered into over the description 'normal'

I would have gone back and ask for a refund!...a little profit maker from McDonalds errors.
Talking of McDonalds - I publically declare that I visited McDonalds the other day in Tbilisi, Georgia in desperation for some western food! Oh it tasted so nice and no different from the UK McDonalds! The price was almost the same too!
Seriously, I do not normally eat at McDonalds and usually wear a disguise when I visit. I normally have red hair, yellow boots.. and answer to the name of Ron!

I seek out McDonalds overseas for the same reason and have visited them all over the world. While it's all the rage to bash them, I don't find them so bad. There's far worse.
