Ok Guys

Go on admitt it, who made the new years resolution to give up smoking, and how many of you are still managing this incredible feat?

I had been smoking on and off all last year. Manage to quit the ciggies then went onto cigars (only smoking them in the evening).
New years eve came, smoked my last cuban cigar, its been over a week of no smoking. i am ok though and am sure that i will keep this up.

How many of you are secretly trying?

Not me, been there, got Tshirt, Im stuck with it lol. Been smoking since I was about 13 (it was the "in thing" to do back than and you didnt have to be 16 either) Tried patches, gums, inhalers, I even got hypnotised, that was the nearest I got, didnt even want a fag for about 2 weeks, then all of a sudden I did, went back to hypnotist for another go but I left his studio/surgery (or whetever they are called) and lasted about 20 minutes. Since then I have given up giving up.

My New Years Resolution is to start smoking. I had a couple of cheeky tabs on Saturday night, helped mainly be the fact that my Mum smokes Marlboro menthols, which is like smoking a Polo mint.

My aim is to be on 20-a-day by the end of Feb, then onto cigars and finally I plan to be smoking crack by mid-April.

To quit smoking you have to think of the incentives and focus on a particular one. I have a particular incentive and it's been a walk in the park for me!

This is also true, like buying those designers closes u always wanted, or using the money saved to join a Gym.

If you think about it, a pack of 20 ciggies is about a fiver. So
its about £35 a week spent, or more
£140 per month, now would you have a direct debit coming out of your account for that?
Thats £1680 per year, the cost of a decent holiday!

That was a major factor that got me to quit!

I too tried gum, inhalers and a hypnotist, which lasted two weeks and then stopped.

I still smoke and am a firm believer that you have to really want to give up to be able to. As gross as those pictures where it wont stop me going out into the garden in half an hour and lighting up.

My reason will be when I am ready to make babies, (which will be later this year). I see pregnant women in the street smoking and it turns my stomach. I could never pollute my babies little lungs.

I could not agree more, you have to want to do it for urself. My main reason was the money factor, the lungs piccie i pinched from another forum :-)
Don't get me wrong there are times i miss a ciggie, but it is only for a while. It gets worse still wen u have a few beers.

There is also the arguement that you are going to die of something. Not forgetting the age old question, how clean is the air i breathe anyway?

Claire

I think you may find that when you are actually pregnant, the thought of smoking is naturally nauseating.

Hi Claire. I think you will be a wonderful mother with that attitude.

A few years ago I told my wife that I must have a baby. She also wanted one, but said that she couldn't pack up smoking.

Weeks of argument and upset followed because my position was that I was determined to have a baby with a non-smoker. I'm serious. We were considering divorce over this because I just could not handle the thought of my baby being forced to process thousands of filthy, unnatural chemicals with its innocent little body.

We now have a gorgeous 5 year old daughter who still (I hope) doesn't even know what cigarettes are.

My hubby had said that I must give up at least 6 months before we start trying to ensure my body is as fit as can be.

I compromised though and got it down to a month as I figure it may take longer than he thinks (mens brains are not quite in touch with it all!). I appreciate how hard it will be but I want to give my body a chance to get healthy before submitting a tiny life to living in a nasty place!

Nic - I feel nauseous just watching a pregnant women smoke let alone waiting till I fell before giving up.

cigs are less than £1 per packet here, so, no I haven't given up yet.

You can actually recover from the effects of smoking but it takes ages and it's not a complete recovery. You start coughing it all up in a lovely black tar. There's no way I'm ever going to smoke, I've seen what it does to people - there's far better ways to have a good time than through slow suicide.

Well it's common knowledge isn't it? The cillia in your throat with little hairs that flick dirt and smoke back out. That's why you get a smoker's cough - It's your body telling you to pack it in! I hold my breath when I walk by the 'hard' kids who stand at the school gates smoking. It's pathetic! Peer pressure at its worse.

And it's not my GCSE's this year Nic, that's next year!! I'm studying hard, don't you worry :D!

no worries, they don't use their lungs in your tummy, it goes straight in through the umbilical, in the blood.

no wonder a lot of babies cry at birth, they are gasping for a smoke!

Nicotine withdrawal sucks 8)

Who these lot? Nah, they're lovely!! Just be careful not to spend too much time in smokey pubs whilst the little one's in your tummy. Passive smoking's even more harmful!
