Your LinkedIn group? What is your group about?

what do you mean about?
You can introduce yourself, have discussions etc. I think they have a meeting that sort of thing.

You can set up your company on Linked In and associate all your employees to it. This comes with it's own discussion/news/bulletin boards.
You can set up a group about any subject and anyone can request to join if they have an interest in that subject, these too, will contain a discussion/news boards for any member to contribute to.
I was just simply asking what subject your group is about if that is what you were referring to when you stated "i have found ours to be quiet, only a few replies etc"

I think it's a big challenge to create a LinkedIn group for your company and come up with a the reason why you have a group.
I think it's better to participate in current discussion groups and built your network first. Second step would be your own business group.

I just wanted to join discussion groups where people actively chat about security products, but found them to be dead quite +too much people advertising their products, companies. In short - crap :D

Yeah I find with some industries/topics this will be the case.
Are you a member of this one?

Over 3,000 members so any topics posted will be seen by a lot of members.
Always try to contribute to/create topics about something you know people will want to hear (as obvious as it sounds), put yourself in the readers position. Be the first to review a new product on the market, offer great industry news, tips, installation/instruction/tutorials maybe? As long as there is value in the topics, there is someone out there that will be interested.

I agree with this, most of the groups that have relevence are either dead or just spammed the hell out of

I think it does depend on the groups that you are in. I've found the ones I'm in to either be quiet or to have good sensible discussions without spam.

It's anoying if you have a discussion and a post just turns up that's completely off topic. I've found some LinkedIn groups with some strict group owners.
But even on this forum you'll find a lot of social media spammer. It's something that eventually will disappear when people know how to deal with it.

i would be interested to know how successful some of you guys here have been on linkedin.I created a profile last year and did a little networking, but i didn't see much benefit from it.
Is my lack of success on linkedin due to the fact that i have not put much time into it,or is it because there are millions of other people there offering the same services that i offer?

In my article I discuss some steps.
For me, creating a 100% profile AND participate in discussions proofed to be successful.
However, it helps if you can produce content were people are interested in. Fortunately we have a team at Simply Business but I can imagine it's hard to produce content yourself without such a backup.
If you can produce content, you can easily post it in suitable groups on LinkedIn. If you can measure the amount of clicks to your website from these posts + the number of people participating in your discussions, you can measure your success.

What are you trying to achieve on LinkedIn? I find it to be very useful and successful for networking and expanding. Establish what your goals are.
If you are trying to promote your SEO/PPC services then this market is saturated on LinkedIn and if I'm honest, looking at your homepage, at first impressions, it comes across very amateurish and dated.
