On your old system if you go to file export, then you can save the whole of your inbox and contacts to a .pst file. Just make sure you select the check box for all subfolders as well.
Then you to the new machine and import the exported .pst file to you new outlook.
Here is a link that will show you how to do it.

For those of you that have multiple accounts, rules and other Outlook settings, these are not transferred with the PST file. I have used http://www.backup-email.com/email-backup/ in the past and it is really good. To help speed up the back up it is good to reduce the email content in your main PST to a new PST file and then back up your settings. The program struggled with 5GB of data :D

That's a good point you make there.
Plenty of people make the mistake of setting up their emails after they have backed-up, formated their pc and then don't have the details to hand .
oph you will be ok so long as you keep your old pc to hand. To save on mistakes jotting the info down, take screen shots of your email account(s) and print them off. Don't forget the 'more settings' and take note of the Outgoing Server tab.
