Hi I'm looking into merchant accounts and see that lots of people on here speak well of Streamline, but I see that they're now part of RBS Worldpay and my web developer has said he's had a terrible experience with RBS Worldpay, integrating difficult, they take ages to pay money into your account.

Can I ask if anyone has any experience of internet merchant accounts with RBS Worldpay?

thanks

Streamline - Faultfree. Over 5 years. With a telephone support that does the business perfectly every time.

(Check out FSB as they used to do a standing charge fee free account with streamline).

Worldpay do offer accounts that transfer funds through to your bank in 48hours. Partly depends on what it is that you're selling - ie risk of cancellations and chargebacks.

Streamline has always been owned by RBS. RBS has owned worldpay for about a decade or so. All that has happened recently is the introduction of some merged products and a branding change.

Worldpay are not the best value , you may obtain better rates elsewhere ( all depends on turnover ) , when i first used them i was on delayed payment for 4 weeks .... but that was mmm 8 years ago , now on weekly payment .... integration i did not find that difficuly , and im not a designer !

Overall experience GOOD

the most important factor for me i they have been rock solid relaible , i dont think in all these years i have ever lost a transaction because of unreliabilty of service .... so far i am prepared to pay the extra for that ..however in the next month or so i shall be integrating and testing moneybookers as they have better rates .... for me though overall relaibilty is the key

Natwest has always owned Streamline, and so streamline has been the sole RBS merchant account product now for a good number of years.

All that has happened recently is the introduction of a merged product and some re-branding.

Also, worldpay also have accounts where funds are cleared and in your bank within 48 hours. The delays depend more on what you're selling, and the risk of cancellations and chargebacks.

Data point: I've had no problem integrating a very basic app with the Streamline/RBSWorldpay payment system.

What problems did your developer have?

I'm not entirely sure James. Apologies. He only mentioned delayed payments from them and integration issues broadly but no specifics.

Hello

I have always found the integration with Worldpay pretty easy. Not sure about the rest though, we stopped using them a few years back in favour of Protx/SagePay

Do you mind me asking what converted you to using Sagepay instead?

I think at the time the reason was that Worldpay were taking weeks to give us the money, with Protx it was only a matter of waiting a couple of days. This was probably 3 or 4 years ago though so I wonder whether things have changed at Worldpay since.

I have done lots of integrations using Worldpay for our clients and found them easy to add into a website.

I signed up with them 3 weeks ago to use them on a personal ecommerce site and i havent heard anything for over a week now on the progress of my application and they dont seem to like answering enquiries.

We have 4 new ecommerce sites waiting to be built and I was going to recommend worldpay for them but after my own experience i will suggest protx or even paypal as a last resort.

We've used WorldPay since the started, no real problems in 10+ years

Settlement delay depends on your trading history, whether you use your own merchant-account or theirs, chargeback potential etc, but we get our payments settled next working day :D

Integration is straightforward - have done well over a 100 integrations for clients over the years - everything from a simple "Input of the gateway/service id" into a preconfigured module for ecom applications to full design and coding of csustom order pages, callbacks, futurepay recurring charges etc

The documentation is good, and they're always available on the phone to ask a question and email some sample code if needed.

Not as cheap as ProtX - now SagePay - (who we've also used for some projects) but a *lot* more reliable IME

Streamline have been great with me. Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but, if you join the Federation of Small Business you get a free streamline account. Definitely worth it.

We have been using Streamline now for a number of years in conjunction with SagePay and have not had any problems.

If you join the Federation of Small Business (FSB) they have a deal in place with Streamline for their members to get preferential rates.

Call them up, ask for a shorter settlement period - they're happy to review either your rates or your settlement once per year ...

Hi, from all the looking around I've been doing I've found that the main problem most people have with RBS Worldpay is that they take ages to pay your money into your account initially. As the person above said though they seem to be happy to review after 1 year though not necessarily by much. I'm avoiding them on this basis.

The best rates I've found are with Lloyds TSB Cardnet merchant account. Quotes differ for every business model but they quoted me 2% on credit cards and 30p of debit cards from startup. The setup fee is more expensive than most at £350 but I make the difference on that back before the year is out on the money I'd save from transactions.

Cheers

After nearly a month RBS Worldpay have finally got back to me with this offer:

During our assessment we look at many factors including the age of your business, its net worth and the goods/services you are intending to sell online in relation to the perceived risk of chargebacks*. It is designed to help us understand and determine the potential exposure for which we may be jointly liable.

On this occasion in order to proceed with your application we have found that we will need to apply a reserve to your account. The reserve level will initially be set to £3419 and represents additional security that may be required to cover our potential exposure.

Once you begin to trade, the reserve amount will be accrued from funds due to you and then, providing the reserve level has been met, we will transfer the remaining funds to your bank account in accordance with our standard terms.

We have been traiding for over 10 years and have excelent credit ratings so we think their £3419 reserve seems very expensive.

Time to talk to sagepay now and see if they want our business and recommendations for the 20+ a year ecommerce sites we build :)

No problems with them so far - and their tech team were great with the integration - only thing I dont like is being transfered to a different page to enter card details - although they did say it could be rebranded.

How was the process to get that started and what are the fees you are being charged? This is the exact route I was planning, as Sage Pay seems reasonable and it looks like it has the abilty to merge with our Sage Instant Accounts.

I am interest in any details you have.

Cheers,

Phone the FSB and tell them to want to join. They will most likely send a rep out to explain the benefits and complete the registration process.

They should also be able to give you the current streamline rates. Rates vary depending on whether you are new to taking cards or not, average transaction value and expected turnover.

We are currently paying less than 1.5% and only have one level to go to get best rates.

After 6 months you can contact the FSB and ask them to review the rates with streamline on your behalf.

FSB may be able to help with the opening of the streamline account but once you have your FSB membership number you can just call Streamline up.

Once you have your merchant account details you can then apply with SagePay via their website.

Job done.

Honestly can't remember how long we have been with them now but it was well worth switching from Barclays to Streamline.
