Oh.... RAM, I'm sure that's what my son said I needed to get to make my putah better.

I'll be back (better check, he could've said anything as I don't understand what he goes on about!)

I think you should share your son Hayles, it's not right you have him all to yourself...there are other none techies out here

What is the rams for anyway?

Right, I want them please! Can you change it to an instant sale sort of thing/withdraw them (for the right price of course.... ), or will I have to wait til the end of the auction?

You'll have to place a bid for them ;)

You never know, they could go for thousands!

And pigs may just fly out of my floppy disk drive ;)

A ram is a type of sheep.

Openmind...why not save the ebay fees and paypal fees and stop the auction. If Hayles wants them I'm sure she'll offer you the price you were looking for

Because that would ruin the excitement of course ;)

I've got a whole load of stuff in my loft I'm going to be flogging so this is to "test the water" so to speak.

Nothing to stop Hayles (or anyone else) placing a bid ;)

RAM is 'ready available memory' the larger the better, 512 is good....it size of the memory that the computer can process, such as applications, at any one time.

I need some for my DELL PC but not sure if it is DDR... I think I was looking for the other S...? SDRAM?...I have a DELL 1.4Ghz Dimensions 8100

RAM is 'ready available memory' ...

RAM stands for Random Access Memory. It is often called simply "memory". The locations in RAM can be accessed randomly by the processor without considering other locations. It does this by using their byte addresses, denoted for arithmetical convenience by hexadecimal numbers (base 16), which are of course really laid out using base 2 (binary) numbers. A chunk of memory is accessed by the address of the first byte of the array of locations.

The operating system is loaded into memory at boot, along with other system programs, by ROM. Then user applications are loaded on demand. The more memory the computer has, the more applications can be open at the same time.

I get the memory bit...

Nice one Jayne. Was your pun intentional? That's what memory is really, a huge array of "bits" which is short for "binary digits".

Oh and Happy Birthday by the way. I hope you had a good one.

Right that's me off to bed now. I'm gonna watch the cricket for a couple of hours and hope South Africa can beat the sheep-shaggers.

Just one thing,

DDR 400 isnt pc2700

400 is PC3200

openmind
12th January 2006, 10:06
ah knickers. But PC3200 is better than PC2700 though isn't it...

As long as they dont have some "el cheapo" motherboard that cant handle faster ram then there should be no problem. With regards to the speed, if you have say 1 stick of PC2700 and 1 of PC3200, then both will run at the slower speed.
