I need to buy another another pc just for basic office use, not gaming etc.

The only things I would like it to have is a wireless keyboard & mouse and a tft screen and be fairly fast and also as cheap as possible.

Can anyone recommend one or where to buy from?

Thanks

Hi,

I was told they are selling cheap ones in PC World, from about £300 brand new and was told they were pretty good :D

Decide how much you want to spend. Check out the PC mags down your local WHSmith's for one that is doing a "shootout" in the price bracket you're looking at. That should give you a good idea of what to buy for your money.

You could do alot worse than look here:

I really resent it, but the cheapest place for PCs is Dell at the moment.

But they're very slippery about what specification the basic boxes actually are - they offer lots of 'upgrade options' which is where they make the money. As a general principle get the more expensive option rather than pay for upgrades to the cheaper.

Don't buy a PC with less than 512mb RAM (the real cheapies will have 256 which will be s l o w.)

For basic office use any of those will do (but add 256 RAM) as an option on the cheapest if you must buy it (the cheapest also has CRT not flat panel).

(Don't expect to be able to upgrade with gaming video cards later - they may not be able to.)

You can add a wireless keyboard and mouse for £50.

I bought my PC from Ginger6 and it needed several modifications before I could get it working properly, including changing the internal modem and modifying the BIOS to get the correct bus speed for the CPU.

Be careful what you're signing, I've had a very nasty run in with PC world which nearly ended up in court. Their fault of course!

If you PM me the spec I'll get you a price - but I have to say Dell are pretty unbeatable on price atm
