Dear All,
My name is Robert Johnson and I am currently in my 4th year at Bournemouth University, for my dissertation I am conducting a live report with a local business to see if social networks can support the more traditional forms of online marketing. I have come across a major stumbling block however, with very few resources and a limited budget I am having trouble trying to find how I can measure efficiency of the social networks. My original idea is to measure how many bookings are sourced from the use of social networks but I am having issues on how this can be recorded. I am also having issues on how to get the social networks visibility to the right people.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Kind Regards,
Robert Johnson.

To judge where the source of a sale or lead has come from, give an incentive to potential clients.

The site I work for has over 40 different voucher codes, each with a different name
e.g. EXAMPLESITE1, FACEBOOK2010, FORUM1
So when people contact the company, they quote this code in exchange for a reward (a % off the price, free gift etc)

So I know how successful Twitter is for business versus Facebook for example.

Hope that helps?

One way is to load up Google Analytics in the footer of their website, and then track through there. You can set up goals where if a user comes from, say, Facebook, and then proceeds to order something, it'll let you know.

It gets more complicated when you have several different campaigns running on specific social networks. Nina's suggestion of coupons/vouchers is one way, another might be to set up a tracking code though that might require coding.

More easily, why not put a note on the order form with the question: 'how did you find us?'. You could even make it compulsory to fill in.
