What about Microsoft Excel? Or Microsoft Access?

As Liam says there are a massive range of products to do what you ask, ranging from the most basic, such as Excel or Access right through to enterprise level solutions that comply to IT service management standards such as Marval (http://www.marval.co.uk/).
It all depends what level you're needing it for!

Access and Excel are very user friendly. If I can use them, anyone can! They do the job and keep it simple!
How complex a program are you after?

Is there still a 'Contact Managment' database wizard that comes with access, I have never upgraded from 2000, so do not know what comes in the later versions.
Failing that, start on http://www.download.com and see what is available there.

But then again, you don't want something that's going to be so complicated that you can't use it! Do you want me to send you some annotated screenshots of Excel or Access? If you PM me with your email address I'd be only too happy to help!!

Wouldn't recommend that unless you have a good antivirus/spyware program ready! I know they 'guarantee' that there's nothing on their downloads, but you can't be too sure!

I agree with what has already been said. Go with Access. There are some great free templates around that will probably do what you want to do. These templates can easily be modified to suite your exact needs. The other beauty of Access is that it has wizards that will scale up the database (to MS SQL) for example. This means that if you do outgrow your application you can easily port the data to a different application.

definately access, I'm in the same trade as yourself, I made a database to do exactly the same, but I do a lot of onsite work and binned the database otherwise you could have had it., it also tracked payments etc but I now use Kashflow for that. The thing is, learning access might take you ages, depending on the complexity of the database, the advantage though of doing it yourself, it will be EXACTLY how you want it, and you can change it if the need arises.

Or contact Creospace. He's just done a software package for me and it's excellent - simple to use and personalised to our admin needs. I'm sure he'd be able to help or advise.
