Has anyone seen the adverts on TV? My god, the "Some people think the Internet is a bad thing" is a creepy advert. You've already got people out there worried about online security (me included, and I work on it) and they go create adverts like that.

AOL Discuss (http://discuss.aol.co.uk/home.aspx?id_Content=2) - top right. Watch the "Good" and then "Bad".

Hi,

Having worked for these guys I think I can predict the ad campaign.

Internet is Bad,

AOL is Good,

Internet via AOL is Good.

so expect at least one more advert, probably bunny rabbits and rainbows like Sean Penns Iraq.

The number of times I heard (chaos regigns on the internet) from the installation disks for Compuserve haunts me to this day!

I'm happy for AOL to get on with it to be honest. There was a time when AOL/Time Warner looked like they might just take over the World, but this clearly isn't going to happy now.

There will always be a market for the types of products and services that AOL, PC World etc supply. No amount of education will ever stop people from using them.

Online security is an interesting concept. You'd never leave your car parked on the street without locking your doors, so why leave your PC on the Internet within the relevent security? If AOL raise awareness of this, then fair play to them.

Not really....to be honest. It really mention anything about AOL at all in the adverts, apart from at the end. Otherwise I'd have thought Downing Street were trying to scare the sh** out of us.

LoL,

did not click the link, and had only seen the negative ad, boy those ad boffs are still so predictable as have just seen the positive ad. 1 point to me as sure enough the subtext was as I stated.

AOL bashing is easy, but I do still have an account as a backup, those who use the client are simply insane. But I have used their dial up all over the globe and its still just about worth paying fopr the peace of mind of being able to connect anywhere.

However I take the lap top to fewer and fewer places now, so the arguement for keeping a dial up account are waning.

i was with aol as a dial up.
can't slang them off too much as i enjoyed the chat rooms in them.
Other than this i have the lowest regard for them. unreliable broadband connection. Take over everything on pc.
Far better isps out there. I certainly advise my customers against using them.
