Im wanting to set up a site where you can play snooker and pool. You can play for fun or enter tournaments for money. You have to pay to get into the tournaments. There will be different tournaments, eg standard, say a few quid to enter and a VIP tournament section say quite abit to enter.
Can anyone help me how to progress this. Do i need a gambling licence?

I think this could work,
pool / snooker is very popular and the poker fad will fade.
There are some good online sims, but not sure if good enough.
I know World Snooker are always looking for new rev streams so may well be worth aslking them as they already have acces to game and may be willing to JV it.

I have seen many pool and snooker games online and i play a few. I really think this could work. Could you please explain what 'JV' is. Im new to starting a business. Have you got any ideas on how i could get this to work? In my opinion if there was a site already doing it, then i would go on it. The betting would be similar to poker games online, You pay say £5.25, £5 goes into the pot for the winner and i keep the 25p, or something like that to actually make some money out of it.
More ideas would be great.

If you take a lok at the nuguru site you may see that I have had dealings with WS so know my onions here.
Youre gonna need a big games player involved, to do it online.
But if you can tie up with WS and MS could be good.

ps have spotted a couple of sites offering cash prizes so you defo on the right lines.

Oh no, the snooker and pool idea is not the same idea as what i put in the legal forum. I have a few ideas but i want to go with the right one.
What would be the best way to approach WS or WP? Would they not already considered doing this?

OK,
I would get all my figures right, full plan with your homework in there and then approach World Snooker.
It's quite a way beyond the scope of licensing a name for a game, so you may be able to get a foot in the door if they are looking for more low effort money making schemes that the name can be leant to.

Thanks cruz for your imput and thanks Duane for explaining JV!
Do you know anyone who may want to joint venture it? Or would it be best to approach World Snooker about that idea?

I'd try and develop that idea yourself first, research into it. Maybe ask other online snooker players.
How would you make sure people paid up when they lost? Get them to dposit money into an online account or something?
I think this could work because then you get advertising on it. They used to have those board things on the floor with advertising on (did they? I can't remember  ). Like in footie, all around the pitch, you could have that but around the virtual tables.
You need to think about how it would work, how do people start a game? Will you have a league? Think about the flow of the customer, put together a plan of how it would work, possible advertising opportunities within the site. Once you have a plan and know what the site wants / needs to do. Maybe you could get a quote (quotes are free last time I checked) so you get a very good estimate of how much an idea like this would cost to set up.
And if you are looking to get funding, partners etc then all this info will help your case! :)

Has this idea progressed? I've seen quite a few new online snooker and pool sites have popped up recently.

Been going for ages - works really well - would recommend it. There are free tournaments where you can win money.
I don't want to rubbish your idea, but you are going to need a huge quantity of cash to get this going and to compete with the likes of these guys or similar.

Yep theres that, flyordie.com minatrix.com miniclip.com. That said big big market and plenty of room no doubt. The problem you have is in promoting it, or should I say the money needed to promote it. All very well building the site but you need to get traffic through it.
