Also do you count the results that appear when looking only co.uk in google or in general?
Also another question, how many backlinks do you think is a very competitive term. I mean I saw today a website with 3000 backlinks to beat a website with 60 000??? this stuff is crazy I am telling ya

Well I'd rather have 100 high quality links than 10,000 low quality links
Uncompetitive keywords tend to be found in local search where ideas about SEO haven't caught on yet. Competitive keywords will be found in national searches and are often generic terms such as insurance, web design and recruitment.

I'm confuesed, why do care about google results if you are earning all this money as a model/actor?

Because google uses synonyms, i don't know what the other methods used, in giving you results in your search query. Try to compare the results in your search with or without "" then you can see the difference. For better result of getting the competition you can use "" this will only display the competition with the exact search term.

I wouldnt wory about the number of pages which appear for each key word. I would research what the top keywords are and then analyse how difficult it is to rank for these terms.
One way to do this is by looking at SEOmoz difficulty predictor.

I must agree with Andy on this one - quality of backlinks beats quantity. Simple as that.

Everything I've read says quality over quantity, any day. Though quantity is nice for the ego. ;)

I support Orange22 on this one. Typing a keyword in and looking at the number of pages returns tells you close to nothing (quotes or no quotes) about the amount of competition.
Doing an allinanchor search is probably about as good a way of any of trying to work out how many sites are actually competing for ranking on a particular keyword - although again not exactly brilliant!
