View Full Version : How business cards can really boost your business

Some people on here may know that I sometimes DJ at a local club, I do parties and private bookings. I wanted to put my own products and theories to the test to see how much a business card can really improve your selling and marketing.

In December I DJ’ed at 7 parties, to approximately 1200 people in total. I had printed in preparation 2 types of business cards, one was a full colour one that I sell on my website and the type was printed in train station. I had 500 of each card to hand out.

The card I printed was full colour and included an image of some DJ decks, basic info (to book a DJ for your party or for more info please e-mail) and an e-mail address. The other card was black and white, it also had an image on it (a music note, the closest thing I could find on the printing vending machine), the same basic info but with a slightly different e-mail address. We had two different e-mail addresses so we could easily monitor the amount of interest each card generated, the difference was djnmb@******.co.uk and “the partyDJ@******.co.uk”.

To make it fair we handed out exactly the same amount of cards out each night. For the first 6 parties we handed out 25 of each from the DJ booth and we distributed another 25 onto tables and the bar. The cards were mixed up and not handed out in any particular order. On the last night we handed out 200 of each card, we did this because it was the largest party of all with 300 people.

My DJ partner kept watch of the replies to the inboxes and he e-mailed me over the results this morning. To make it fair it was my DJ partner and venue staff that distributed and handed out the cards, not myself.

We judged the cards on the e-mails they generated, the amount left on tables/floor after the party had ended and also people’s first impression of them. We kept the test as fair as possible, after all both cards could potentially get me work.

The results were outstanding!

From the 500 budget business cards handed out, we collected nearly half the amount back up again from the tables, bar and off the floor. The general reaction when someone was handed one of these cards was of slight confusion and the most response was “oh right, thanks”. The most important bit is the e-mails it generated, we got 4 e-mails requesting date availability and 1 wanting further info. Not bad, 5 possible booking!

From the 500 high quality cards we handed out, we only collected 19 back in from the tables etc. When we handed them out, people were genuinely impressed by them and several asked where they were printed, this in itself led to 5 business card orders! People were so impressed by them that you could see then showing others once they had returned to their group. The results of the e-mails even impressed me, I got 27 requesting availability, 12 wanting more info and 4 asking where I had my business cards done! My DJ partner read each e-mail and was astounded that in 7 of the e-mails people had said along the lines of “I was passed your business card from someone who went to a party you DJed”.

Of course we were expecting our cards to bring in better results but we did not expect them to do so well. What we were really shocked at was that people that were not even at one of the parties, had been passed on the cards and wanted to book us!

I called a few people who had contacted us regarding a booking. I spoke to a woman called June, she said she had been at one of the parties at the club and had seen the business card on a table. She needed a DJ for her daughters 18th and she said the cards looked so professional she thought it must be a big and reliable company. I am booked to do her daughters birthday and they want to book me for next Christmas!

People often forget what business cards do, not only do they give potential customers your information but they also say a lot about you and your company. I know some businessmen that pay over £5 for each of their business cards as they realise their importance. The cards we sell are, of course, much more inexpensive than these but they are still very professional. For example the type of cards that I handed out that got the great response only cost £99 for 5000 including design and delivery. I handed out one tenth of my stock and generated over 40 leads, this is potentially over £4000 worth of work!

Last year I sold these types of cards to artists, bands, business advisors, restaurants, nail salons, baby shops, barbers, florists, models, web designers and many many more professions. Because any picture and text can be added it makes them very versatile. These cards cost less than 2p each! Just read my testimonials here http://www.mkprinting.co.uk/testimonials.cfm and see how varied our customer professions are and ho happy they are with the products and service.

Because we are so proud of our cards we really want you to try them. As a special offer we will do you 5k of these full colour and double sided cards for just £75! This includes full design and delivery. Just think of the work that these cards can bring in for your company.

If you are interested in this offer please e-mail us at info@mkprinting.co.uk and quote “business card offer” in the subject bar. We will then get in contact with you and arrange your order.

Hello people

Claire

Just by leaving business cards about in bars etc you can really increase your website traffic and it costs less than decent paper advert. It also displays your artwork printed to the highest standard.

Hayles

I have got your e-mail and I am will reply to you this afternoon.

Crus

If you having issues with your design I have a great designer who can help. If not, when you are ready get in contact.

Shelley

I will send you an e-mail. I think ti is easier to get new artwork done, that way it will be to the highest standard. I will e-mail you.

Thanks

That's quite a good case study. I have a property site and did a few hundred cards and often left them on the tube and other places. It definitely helped improve traffic in the beginning.
