Hi All
We are in the process of putting together a new training workshop to show people how to get an internet presence from scratch. I wanted some feedback from people on this forum as I've found this forum great for real feedback...
We know that the workshop works well, as we have done this many times and we have some great success, however what I want to know from you guys is...
What is the main problem you have encountered when learning to put a website up. Think about Domains, Hosting, building a site etc..
Any feedback would be useful.
Thanks

Andy
are you targetting this at a specific type of business?
Such as one man bands -
the differences in learning curves will be vastly different depending on size of company, wealth and internal experience.

are the workshops free? because in effect if there not you are selling information which is readily available, or do you go into depth about the harder to understand levels like link building?

Hi All
Thanks for the feedback so far. I just wanted to answer and clarify a few things for the thread.
Firstly we have provided tuition on Internet marketing across many delivery platforms for quite a while now. These methods of delivery have been to groups via the Workshop and Seminar route, either putting on an event ourselves or being asked by external organisations to provide sessions within another companies training program. We have also provided one-2-one consultation and mentoring programs.
We know that these platforms work well and are needed by the people who attend or seek us out for individual programs.
Massey, to answer your question “are the workshops free?”. The answer is no, we charge for our workshops and individual tuition. You are quite right that the information is readily available; the problem is that putting that readily available information together as a coherent program which actually enables people to truly understand what we may consider some of the most basic of actions such as. Buying a domain and pointing the name servers at an external hosting company is so far away from our clients comfort zone that most of the time people try and give up.
The very reason why we put these workshops together in the first place was because of demand. I have spoken at some Business, Property and Entrepreneurial Networking Meetings across the UK, speaking on the very basics of Internet Marketing Technology. At these meeting, people were enthralled and many came up after to ask to me mentored.
The type of training I was being asked for was to my mind incredibly basic. I thought like Massey, this stuff is all over the internet, in books and all completely free to anyone who wants to look for it.
In fact I spoke to people who wanted me to train them why they don’t just go in the internet and find all this out for free. The answer I got back made me realise that it is so easy to take for granted the knowledge in my head... but I have spent years accumulating that knowledge. I have spent many nights finding the best ways to do things and found the best and cheapest routes to achieve the end result.
The truth of the matter was that, all this free information was conflicting, misleading and above all, confusing. What really happens to the average person who just wants to know how to put up a basic website for their school, small business, home business etc is that they are sold crap from day one! They are lead down so many expensive and false roads that they very often come to us with a bad taste in their mouths because they have been ripped off or tried to get a site up themselves from this “Free Information” and failed miserably and are incredible frustrated.
After I have done either a group or individual training, I get feedback such as “this is the clearest most practical I have ever seen, I can now actually do what I wanted”
So I know the training is essential. What I really need to know from you guys at this forum is...
Take you mind back to when you first started out and putting a site up for the first time, what was the one thing which stumped you? What frustrated you the most?
It will be interesting to read your answers and I’d like to thank you in advance for at least thinking about it.. I know my students will benefit.
