VAT on commercial vehicle

Just bought a Mercedes van and the purchase invoice does not include any VAT:

i.e.

Sales price £2000
VAT %
Net amount due £2000

The dealer is VAT registered.

Any thoughts as to why it is not shown on the invoice?

Will give them a call on Monday.

You can buy a new Mercedes van for £2,000? :eek: :p

If, as seems rather likely, it's a used vehicle and the dealer bought it from a non VAT registered person, then it will have been dealt with on a VAT margin scheme, and the dealer cannot issue a VAT invoice.

Should I admit that at first glance i mistook £2000 for £20000? Probably not.

Yes it's a second hand van.
