Have to be careful how you say it. Moment you say "I post purely to get sales" people start to think less of you, as they feel you're fake and here to gain. Yet at the same time, there are characteristics of all my posts (and many other people's) that are forms of marketing that is certainly a form of sales. They're all in my signature - my company logo and description of what we do.

I'm sure I have done posts specifically mentioning what we do (and know via PM I've spoken to people more in depth about it) but the majority of my posts would be unrelated to my company (I think)

I post as its a nice friendly forum, where member get to know each other and pass along their business knowledge.

Also, its a great place to meet other business people and make contacts and do business deals.

The positive side of posting can be increasing awareness of your business and products.

I bet a lot more people read the forums than actually post here.

So the reward for posting may be sales, business deals or just awareness of your business

HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!

Why not, Hayles? Don't be greedy and keep it all to yourself. Share the wealth ;)

I post because it's fun and I enjoy chatting. It's a very helpful place if you have a problem. Plus when I first joined I only had the bakery, so how would that help my sales

Also, you are all doing so well with your businesses, it's pointless pushing my other biz either on here

I just love yacking, simple as that :D

Not at the moment, but I will try to make some contacts and build some bridges during my study time. Next winter I will build a website and ask for guidance on how to promote and fine tune it over the following year. I'm sure I will have all sorts of questions to ask, and as I become more experienced, I will offer any help I am able.

The value of a conference like this is not just being able to sell directly to people, but to build bridges to a lasting and secure business lifestyle. And, after picking the personalities from behind the messages, meet some friends.

We are not a b2b business therefore we do not expect to get sales here. I just enjoy learning stuff and the people.

Nope, you are very very wrong Tony.

I for one do not post to get sales or it would have been the worst and most stupid sales exercise in my business history. I post to help and be helped with business issues. Thats why they're called the Business Forums NOT because people go there to tout for business.

If you post to get sales thats fine but don't lump others in the same boat as you, let them opt-in or out themselves.

UKBF is more than posting just to get sales and from a personal point of view it's obvious who posts to get sales by the quality of their posts and their interactions in the forums.

IMHO It's posting just to get sales that dilutes the quality of these forums and the trust between members because suddenly posts mainly benefit the poster not the person with a business problem.

IMHO the best threads are those started by someone that has a real business problem and are professionally followed up by other members happy to help and advise if it's their area of expertise.

Happy New Year.

I don't think I could name a single person who I think just posts for sales, apart from the new people with their introduction threads that you never hear from again.

There is the odd one, who chucks in a time-out post in now and again, just to make it look like they're joining in.

Do you post in hope you get sales?

Yes, but not on this forum, on here I am trying to learn, network and help, nothing more, but if you do want to buy any domain names

http://reg.urlportfolio.com ;-)

(shameless plug out the way, exception that proves the rule!)

There is some great info here. In posting, I hope I can give something back to the community.

Just paying my way...

I don't, although any sale would be a bonus. Like Jayne (bakery) we not benefit like the 'technology' companies because our biz is strictly geographical. However, from the other side, as both a purchaser and information exchanger, I have reaped enormous benefit.

Cheers, Nigel

since joining this site, I tend to read more than post and its also addictive!

I have posted on other sites in relation to geting business, but this forum for me is more about learning and laughing!

I think that the majority of the people here are looking for some advice and also to know that if they ever did need something then they know John from Wales, Tim from Luton etc who does that.

Thats certainly one of my goals. To make contact with people exchange ideas and help people who are just starting out, launching something or need a hand.

Also I now know where to go if I need personalized roses (Mark), the best baking in the world ( Jayne ), sarcastic comments ( Tom'' ) a debt collector (Nic) or even a helicopter pilot ( Taz). Which I didnt know before.

Then sometimes people end up doing business together and if I ever need any of the above I would certainly put the business their way first.

to be honest i have been a member for nearly a year, and had no customers from the forum.
I also do not hammer my product, but then no one else does either.

But i have met some great ppl online here who i chat to on a regualr basis. And at a time wen i was feeling quite alone trying to runmy business, i now feel through use of the forum that i have learned to overcome this.

Some great ppl who have helped me shape easy as it into what it is today.
From john sheridan, who intially proof read my site for me, to Matt Kendall who has seen an inpsiration

So i do have other motives for coming online other than selling :-)

I don't post in the hope of getting sales either. For me, there are three reasons why I post:

1) I learn a lot from the combined experience and knowledge represented in these forums.

2) Contacts and partnerships are particularly important to any small business owner.

3) I enjoy interacting with people here.
