I'm looking for a partner for a web business who can outline and set up the IT side while I deal with the business/legal/admin/finance etc. I'm thinking along the lines of a budget storage service, maybe for individuals initially and expanding to business later but am open to suggestions. If anyone is interested, has experience/time to look into this please contact me.

Been done before. Loads of organisations do it.

A lot of developers will do things like this, but generally a business plan needs to be done first detailing what you will do in the business, and what is expected of the tech side. Normally negotiations then run round the elements, and you end up with a % deals and clear guidelines of what each party will do.

We are about to come out of recession, so the normal way will return, and that is to secure investment first, then you generally pay the tech with cash, and perhaps shares.

Business plan is the first step, you will need it for both tech and investment folk, and of course you will then also see the viability of the project.

mahutchinson, as others have said, there are numerous services like this around. More significantly, from your point of view, is that many of them are free. Google's gmail, for example, offers massive free storage space - all you need to do is attach your zipped archive to an email you send yourself.

I'm sure you have a plan to differentiate your service from the free ones around, but any potential partner would require you to disclose the (confidential?) details and the route to profit. You'd have to convince him there's money to be made.

All this is on the assumption that it's digital storage you're talking about and not self storage of furniture :)
