Hmm let me think...

Jayne runs a bakery
Nicthechick is a debt collector
FastFences runs a fencing company (as in garden fences, not the type with swords)

ermmm

Multilingual runs a translating business (mostly Eastern European)

Personal Message them and ask the question, I'm sure they'd be happy to help you!

If you fancy a challenge you could try manufacturing.

It's that rather old fashioned process where you try to make a profit by adding value to raw materials.

If you do some research you find a wealth of information about what you cannot do:-

HSE has lots about processes and then there are the COSSH regs about materials, LOLER if you lift anything, Work at Height regs if you get up off your chair.

Then you'll need to employ people to do it, so there's plenty in Employment Law about what you cannot do in employing people.

Your manufacturing process will probably produce waste, so make sure you are absolutely up to date with the Hazardous Waste Regs. That's only half the story though, as there is nowhere to dispose of your hazardous waste except at vast expense.

Give yourself a lifetime to try and half understand all of this and you might be able to make a profit, but beware as the Chancellor will remove more than his fair share of that.

Seriously though, as I said at the beginning, if you want a challenge, work out how a small manufacturing operation can start up, be fully compliant with all legislation, and be a viable business.

Hi arthur,
There does seem to be a plethora of those industries around, especially close to the airport. To get an idea, just put 'airport transfer' into Google, and check all that comes up.

They, of course, would be your competition. Your task is to find a niche market to exploit and expand. May not be easy, but there's a starting point for you.
Cheers, Nigel

Is this study for school then? How old are you? Do you have to actually set up your own business? Or just study one? And if you're into hotels, then speak with hotelexpert. For transport, there's a few people on here running a chartering service.

Right, now I'm lost. Remind me, what exactly are you looking for? Step-by-step plans for running a hotel with an airport pick-up service?

Or are you studying an already established business to see how it works?

Then you need to talk to hotelexpert, as the name suggests, an expert in the area.

No, hotelexpert is a member on this forums.

Put 'hotelexpert' in on the search button at the top, then click PM and ask him all the questions you need to know. I'm sure he'll be happy to help!

Best thing is to realise something you can do well and have good knowledge of, now is the time to start learning. You are in a good position to contact the princes trust and they will probably give you some information and if your plan looks good they will help you get it up and running when you turn 16.
Richard Branson started business at school so don't be put off by your age, just make sure you plan well, listen to advice and take negative comments in a posotive manner, you will learn by your mistakes and make the best of your business.
Even now all of the businesses in the world are still planning, changing and learning.
Good luck with your study and future venture.
