Hi.

I have just registered with this site, as i am looking for business ideas.

Previously i was introduced to a good business. It was a designer clothing business that looked good, we met , talked, looked at the books etc.

I then paid him £7,000, and never heard from him again. I contacted trading standards and they are next to useless!

I have his name, number, address etc.

Anyone got any ideas as to what i could do about it? Can i get my money back?

Small claims for your personal loss maybe?

Or breach of contract?

Not a legal boffin but Ithink these may be two options dependent on what was written down, signed or agreed.

Hi Harry,

Welcome to the forums.

Do you know if the business is still trading? Did you/he sign anything when you paid him? Do you have any proof that you paid him or was it in low-denomination, non-sequential used bank notes?

Nic,

was gonna suggest sending your round with a baseball bat, but don't know you that well.

I guess in all seriousness if its a personal debt, he could get a judgement then instruct you to fulfill the judgement?

I don't think this will be as straight forward as a debt collection - I think a kosh would be useful though.

BTW, I emailed you yesterday or the day before regarding a debt, to your hotmail account.

Have you tried the Police, they may be able to help, it's classes as a con isn't it?

I wouldn't worry about it. Surely you can just put a few grand into your money making scheme and then you'll be over such a small loss.

What's the go here? If someone got conned of 7G's they'd be straight down the Bill, not jumping onto a forum to register and ask, 'What can I do.' Come on now :?

Nic, have you ever koshed a fish?
Cheers, Nigel

It is not a civil debt here buta criminal matter under the Theft Act 1968 - Police should be informed. Anyone who was 'scammed' would have reported it to the Police. These things are becoming a regular occurance now.

If you didn't get a contract signed before parting with the cash, you really should consider whether being in business is your thing.

Seriously. :)

You have his address, I cant see the problem.

Agreed if you have that then you can begin your own debt collection.

If he does nto have the address and really did hand over £7K then the best advice is to find an employer as business is not for him

If you would like my team to look into the matter then email legal.services@handsongroup.co.uk with as much information as you can. We would also need your full name and full postal address by email.

hi there,

i think my mum has been conned and i am looking for some advice if possible...not too sure how this forum works but will give it a try.

my mum is newly single and signed up to a dating site...met this man, and everything was going ok...he was currntly working abroad but was due to fly back to uk and my mum was picking him up at airport.

however he didnt get off the plane and claimed he couldnt get through baggage, only then did i learn that my mum transfered £3000 to his 'godparents' account as he stated he had no one else to turn to and end up not getting paid for his work abroad.

any advice welcome please :)
