Enfeebled

Hello folks.
I incorporated a company back in April '08 and as far as I can tell am in the middle of submitting my first year's accounts and completing my Self Assessment. Or rather my accountant is.
I'd like to see if there's another accountant out there that's more suited to my needs. My accountant hasn't slept with my girlfriend or run over my cat to my knowledge but he seems to be so very busy and even though I told him I really would like him to hold my hand and guide me through things for the first year, I have liased with him very little. I don't feel I can speak to him or even get my head around what he's telling me without him using phrases like "As previously mentioned.." that make me feel like I've not been paying attention. He's familiar with certain terms and phrases when I'm not. I could be wrong but it's given me the feeling that he's not used to working closely with a client and is more familiar with churning out stuff for large companies.
I'd especially like to find someone that can suggest effective ways of reducing tax liabilities. I have no idea where I'd heard it but I've always grown up with the saying "Your accountant should be your best friend" in my head.
Well, I'd like a new best friend, please.
