After my little chat with MK printing I decided to go out and about and put little ads in my sweet shop windows, hoping to attract part-timers to my representatives position.

Whilst I was out I took a few samples of my work, my portfolio, leaflets and lots of cards and went into every shop, bar, hairdressers, dentist and doctors that had a bare wall and asked to speak to the manager.

I was really surprised how receptive people were. I had expected them to say no thanks and shove me out of the door, but at least 30% of them sat down with me for 5 or 10 minutes to look at my work and many of them are refurbing in the New Year so I could get lucky.

Although I didn't get any orders there and then I really am confident that a couple of them will get back to me soon and even if they dont, at least my name is out there a bit more. And dont worry I made sure I got there cards too so I can follow up my visit!

Thanks Matt for giving me the courage to go out there and make a prat of myself!!

Well done, Claire, for having the courage to go out there. I know first-hand how difficult it is; I am still a little nervous about calling on people for the first time, but I find that it does get easier over time. For me, the key is having a clear message that can be delivered in 30 seconds or less.

Thanks Steve,

I'm about to e-mail all the people to say thank you for taking the time out to talk to me.

I'm off to the next door town tomorrow as well, now I'm on a bit of a roll! LOL

Well done Claire,

you cant beat that face to face element, follow up like a pro and it will pay dividends.

So many people neglect this and other guerilla approaches that can do you lots of good.

Well done, Claire.

Sometimes we convince ourselves that everyone's too busy to take a little time out. However, there are a lot of people who'll make the 5-10 mins if they can.

As cynical as the media wants to portray our society, most people are still inherently good and want to treat others well. And I think this is even more the case among business people.

Going in with a friendly attitude, a desire to create value for the other person plus a belief in yourself and your product will get a lot of good responses. As you proved today.

Let's hope you see some sales when the refurbishments happen.
