What applications are out there for small businesses. I currently use MS Excel to do my accounts, which is fine, if you are just wanting to record incomings and outgoings etc.
Is there any software out there that will;
- let you report on the data .. flow charts etc.
- print out a MS Word template invoice using the data
- assist with the tax return calculations
I've heard of sage, but the feedback I am getting is that it takes time to understand, and I am wanting something I can jump straight into.
Any suggestions?

It's perfect for our needs.

At the moment I am using a database I created in access - I tried kashflow and actually it was uncannily similar to my database. There are quite few things I dont like about cashflow though so I doubt I will not be using it, that said, theres a trial and it may well suit your needs, it wont harm to have a look.

Take a look at TASBooks (www.tassoftware.co.uk). It's very user friendly, and includes excellent tutorials.

confused, I'd be keen to hear what things you didn't like about KashFlow - an upgraded version is in development as we speak so i might be able to implement any suggestions you have.

I use VT, used to use excel spreadsheet but it took longer for my accountant to transfer it to VT which he uses.
Also Companies House will soon be able to take annual accounts online using different software. They already have a list but if yours is not on their list contact their head of Customer services who is Ian Smith and let him know what software you are using etc and advise on compliance. They want to work with companies and have a system which will be able to take in as many different formats of software as they plan to do all online in the future.

This is a little misleading.
yes companies house will be taking accounts filed online but don't expect them to take data from accounting/book keeping packages.
They will be taking the info from packages which produce final accounts in the required format.

yes in the required format for final annual accounts, not the whole data as they do not need it

Since my original post here, I have been in contact with Duane and he has been a great help in working around one or two of the issues I had that made Kashflow unsuitable for my particular needs, and most of the other issues I had with it are being addressed already and due to be sorted out on an update which is planned to be released shortly. I have put a lot of details into Kashflow now and plan on giving it a go, I have just one problem in tying it in with my needs, just waiting on a Reply from Duane on that one.
Give it a go, it is very easy to use.
