My pc went mental over the holidays and i needed to reformat the pc, and like a good boy i had a back up CD done to make sure i had everything i needed.
However it only let me copy half of what was on the disc and now its saying i dont have the rights to do it, and coming up with other messages too that basically say the same thing.
I need to get whats on that CD any ideas?

Which OS,
Which Backup App.
Did you reinstall in exactly the same way, are you logged in as admin user as opposed to the day to day user.
A bit more info and I can let you know if I can help.

Humm,
Perhaps the backup was taken with a demo version of the backup software? If so it probably won't let you restore without a pukka copy.
We could offer to sort things out then provide a proper backup, but distance may be an issue.
What was the software used to take the backup?

i will say this, from experience
Never take for granted any backup works, i have backed thing to Cd to discover later the were useless.
In ICT, never take anything for granted :-)
Good luck with the project

Mike, do what I did last week and bought an external hardisk - an 80GB will set you back around £80, but it is well worth it. I'm now doing daily backups.
I also have a 1GB USB pen - Sandisk, again very useful for the backup of Office files, and good to take on the move.
I know this doesn't solve your current problem, but it might be worth looking into the above.

What actually happens? you try and drag the contents of the cd over to your pc and it gives what error exactly?
One thing about backups as mentioned - dont take it for granted- backups hardly ever fail - its the RESTORE that fails, as part of yourbackup routine, you should also check that you can restore your work - not helping now I know. Do you have access to another pc? or indeed another drive to see if it will copy from there?

Another thing to try, daft as this may sound, is to make a copy of your backup cd and see if the "new" copy will read.

Mike,
Disaster recovery is within our portfolio of services (see below).
http://www.enigmaconnections.com/disaster_recovery.jsp
This means I can offer to attempt to recover the files on the CD, on a no win no fee basis. If we are able to come up with some useful files, there would be a small charge.
Having got to the point where we (hopefully) have your useful files working again, we can then offer you a network backup solution which prevents this happening next time.
PM me if you are interested & we can arrange for you to mail up the offending CD.
