I see more and more "Chrome blocker" type extensions for CMS websites popping up. Is there a real problem with Google Chrome in terms of unauthorised data capture?

Yeah sure, your ChromeID (a unique number for each installation) is tied to your GoogleID, and even if its not, its tracked by Google's huge spy network ;) - Google Analytics, and possibly Doubleclick... (Owned by Google)

(edit)

Forgot to say, you could use Chromium (http://code.google.com/chromium/). The Open Source project which makes up Google Chrome, just without the nasty tracking ID..
