View Full Version : Idea for a website:)

I have came up with an idea this afternoon while havng a bowl of soup (trying to lose a few christmas pounds;)).
If this is viable and google dont ban it instantly then i think it could be a goodun, all i ask is that if any web geeks want to do it, they cut me in;)
I know im gonna get shot down in flames here, prepare yourselves:p
The site would have the title " Play for free Find the hidden word and win a mystery prize, everyones a winner, please choose a category" or something on those lines;).
The page then would be full of keywords, an advertiser would rent the site for x amount of days/weeks and there would be x amount of categories.
bear with me.
so as a user i click on the site and im presented with options and the "title above"
what are you most interested in ?
business advertising (seo etc etc)
Home services (plumber etc etc)
Fashion (shoes and sh.t)
and so on
So i click on fashion as i love a pair of y fronts:)
when i click on fashion im presented with a page that looks like this
shoes, armani belt, armani, gucci dress and so on until the entire page is covered with keywords relating to that advertsiers business.
At the top of the page it says something like find the word "Armani belt" and win a guaranteed prize.
So the visitor scrolls along looking for the word in a mass of keywords (1000's) and finally finds it and when he clicks on it, it opens a new window saying congratulations you have won a 10% discount on anything at angel fashion.
we charge the customer on a pay per click basis or a weekly fee.
questions.
Would this site be banned?
would the fashion page described rank well if they were repeated hundreds of times on the same page?
Am i losing my mind and do i need to concentrate on plumbing?
You could of course have hundreds of companies in loads of different categories, the possibilities are endless, me and one other lucky person could become the new bill gates , im sure of it and you who mocked me will be crushed.
Anyway back to reality, what do you think, im sittingdown, shoot.

There would have to be more physical incentives and not just discounts.
If people knew there was a chance; even a minute chance that they could win say a TV and iPod, it would be much more interesting.
As for PPC advertisers. Good luck; ive search far and wide and could not find any (well a very small number). If you did go for it, it would have to be a fixed monthly/yearly fee.
An interesting idea, and no special programming needed I would have thought; why not have a go yourself in your spare time? PM me if you interested and i'll send you info for free easy to use design software and you should be on your way.
Dont think is a £million idea though :/

I don't get it
Why?
its for advertising, people searching for armani belts would find this site in the SE and would then find the keyword and be taken to the advertisers site.
its a rough idea and needs tinkering

I reckon its a good idea - should be reasonably easy to design and might make you some money - not enough to be Bill Gates but remember money isnt everything !!
Good luck

ok does anyone want to quote for designing it, either as a straight payment or a 50/50 split on costs/profit

I can't see it working whatsoever to be honest. It'll be far too much work for little reward. You'll have to put so much time and effort into marketing this and probably get a little return.
If I want to buy a belt, I'll go to a clothes site and buy a belt. I won't spend time playing Where's Wally with a bunch of words on a screen. You would be better off simply making a website and offering discounts for online stores.
Oh and it probably won't rank at all. Thousands of similar words repeated over and over on a page with no structure is the ultimate form of keyword stuffing.

interesting!
how would you get traffic from the search engines though? with the proposed title and 1000's of keywords you wouldnt be able to optimise the site to appear in the top serps would you?

The title is just the title on the actual page the actual web title would be optimised, if that makes sense.
I wouldnt know how to optimise for the SE maybe text at the bottom you could link build with the anchor text of the hidden keyword, im not totally sure.

But maybe if you thought you could get the belt for free you would, would it be possible to change the hidden word depending on the entrance keyword to the page, ahhhh now your thinking you want a piece of this:D

But will you give out free belts? ;)
If people think they can win something free and valuable, then they just end up with a discount, they won't be very impressed. Once they're unimpressed, they won't come back and they won't recommend your site to others.
Remember, you also have to convince these businesses to pay you per click AND give out a discount, so they will lose more profit. For a business to sacrifice that, they would need a LOT of exposure in return. It's going to take a lot of hours and money to create that exposure.

I come to this thread with tough love.
G.LASAGNE STEP AWAY FROM THE SEO MANUAL.
I know you've recently realised Google crawls websites, and displays those results in it's search, but I'm sure you're an awesome plumber!

I think you've come up with a concept - so run with it, play around with your thoughts, never say never!
There are armies (big ones) of competition seekers on the net as well as competition forums, the downside is these people aren't buyers - they are only out for one thing - freebies. What you need to come up with is a way of generating the cash - no one will pay for advertising if there is going to be no return, just for brand awareness won't cut the mustard.
Good luck and keep the ideas rolling - remember someone actually came up with the post it note and made millions!

Ahhh but I didn't say a good idea - I said a concept. Creative thinking is good for you - whether it works or not is entirely different. :D
Brainstorming is fun and who knows what you can come up with!
I personally don't think the keywords idea is a great one but you could run along the lines of puzzles perhaps suduko, with highlighted squares and the highlighted squares make up an ip address which the person who solves it first types in and reaches a winners page at the advertisers site?

I'm not talking about you specifically though ;). Seal-tech seems to think it's smashing.
Anyway I agree. Research and creative thinking is a good idea. However, you have to be careful and avoid wasting time on ideas which are unlikely to work. A big part of being successful with 'out of the box' ideas is a wise use of time.
But to be honest this seo lark is a piece of p.ss i cant believe people charge for it, its the only profession where you can learn it by doing a 1 day course:p
You would be surprised. I used to think on-site SEO was straightforward and simple, but now I've learned that it can actually be extremely complex. It's complex enough to achieve decent results with on-site SEO only if you get it spot on (no backlinks required).
Off-site SEO isn't particularly difficult, but it takes ages and I personally find it incredibly tedious. :p

Did you have alphabet soup today Dave and see a few words in your bowl?

Sorry, cannot comment seriously as I don't know Jack about SEO and whatever I do on my site is purely by accident :)
