Hi,

We are a company dealing with IT hardware and software for small to medium sized companies in the Berkshire area. Our primary markets are the professional sectors as well as startup companies.

How do I find out what the upcoming markets I should target. Is there are publication out there that gives me this level of detail? I have read a recent article in the Daily Mail stating that the number of unemployed people in the Construction related industry have gone up significantly - e.g. Architects, surveyors, etc. I am looking for similar type of information but with emphasis on growth in employment rather than growth in unemployment :)

When I tried to look through for this information on the Office of National Statistics website, I was not able to see this information.

Any help would be appreciated.

you need to look a little harder. I am not allowed to post links yet but put the www's before the following and you should get the info you need

statistics.gov.uk/STATBASE/Product.asp?vlnk=14772

this is broad based info and has to be taken with caution as it is only historical data and not a forecast. if there was some source of info that told us all what the next big thing was going to be I suspect we would all be doing it and making a fortune!!!

Contacting someone like thomsons index to ask for demographics on new advertisers of different types in a region can give you relative information of that nature - they will tell you how many for free - you can buy the list but I dont recommend it.

Dont look for evidence they exist - look for evidence they are searching for what you offer ...and importantly, look for evidence that people searching for what they sell is on the upswing, ... google is your friend!! - insights (good for triends)/kt external etc etc.... look for evidence people are searching for them

Best of all - learn how to use a tool like market samurai to assess competition too....

Then consider how to reach them, and more important a marketing process that gives you their names and email in exchange for information they want..... so you can then start a relationshiop and selling to them...
