Hi

I am a 16 year old student, looking for a way to make money.

I have always been interested in running a small business just have had never had any luck, just cant seem to get the contacts or the idea fails, and dont have the support or money to pull them off.

i am always looking for a way to start something, or buy and sell, use eBay, start my own site, the ideas seem good and they start well: for example- i sold 15 new pc/ps2 games in 2 days, then just stopped.

I have run a t-shirt company with my brother: www.psychostars.com
which did ok, but again we had problems with not being able to find printers etc.

So now i am looking at you, for some advice on what i should do now. If you have a small online job for me, that would be highly appreciated too.

thanks for your time, and hope to hear from you soon.

My first sales were through Ebay, this got me going! I could buy a PAYG mobile phone for £99.99 and the going rate for ebay at the time was £150.00

Sold about 10 and made about 300 profit.

Then came sim cards, again sold on ebay and made enough money to pay for my car insurance for the year.

Stick at it and keep your eyes open, the right thing will pop up!

i have searched everywhere for wholesalers/dropshippers but i cant find any that sell quality products, for me to sell on. just havent come across any.

there seem to be quite alot of people that have set up businesses on here. anyone want to tell me about it? how they started and what they did etc? just wondering.

oh and jayne, merry christmas to you too, and to the rest of you. Merry Christmas!

I started as a Painter and Decorator and had an office in Normanton, Wakefield and then moved onto University to study law.

Our company used to have a small business selling ex-rental DVD's and had a shop on eBay. We didnt make money so was not worth the effort, especially with the way Ebay operate.

I am very wary of 'dropshippers'. What hobbies, skills or experience do you have, this is usually a good starting point when setting up a business.

Merry Christmas

Howdy, Adam

The only reason I run a company and am able to specialise in what I do is because of work experience at school. Whereas everyone else learnt absolutely nothing and was forced to make tea or sit around all day, I was given a superb opportunity that I feel I took full advantage of. Initially, I wasn't going to go, but with 1 day before it begun, I was given a placement at a software development firm. I went along, got on really well with the owner and actually was given the opportunity to learn and work with other programmers, even though I knew nothing at the time. I applied for a job a year later, and at 16 I was working on web development applications for them. I then setup my 1st company whilst working for them. The rest led me to where I am now. Coding Monkeys is my second company, I co-own a 3rd company and am looking to set up another business next year with several other people.

In my case, it really was as simple as finding something I loved and pursing it. I'm actually off to see my old boss from that firm to do work for him next month. Small things can make a huge difference.

I was incredibly lucky in what I got. I don't know anyone who got anything out of work experience, but maybe that was down to myself other than the work placement. Who knows.

I might see if my old school wants me on their list of work experience placements next year. I could do with someone making the tea..... ;)
