Hi all

I thought while on the subject of Gay Marriages i would ask peoples opinion on this.
The question i want to put to you all is, do you think people are born gay, or do they develop this later in life.

Personally i think homosexuality is a product of environment.

what do you think?

I feel people arent born "Gay" because if you were born gay you would know you liked men or woman instantley.

Its to do with growing up i think and a lot more homosexuals will be around if gay couples start adopting children...

I've got a book called "They F*** You Up" that talks about this concept and believes it to be a factor of environment. At the same time, studies have taken place that display families with large birth rates have more chance of having homosexual children, which relates to a means of "natures" birth control.

I couldn't really give a scientific answer, but I'd probably go with environment purely because I dislike the concept that we're controlled by our genes

I once saw this written on a wall.

Someone had put 'My mother made me a gay'

Underneath was written: 'If I bought her some wool would she make me one too!'

Are you including Bi sexuals in this? I think Bi is a different thing altogether.

some interesting point made here
I have also heard of a link between gay men who have a physical attraction for their mother?

Also the fact there is no gene responsible for homosexuality. This i think prob states that itis a product of environment.

It has also been proven that if a person cant get any attention from the opposite sex then they look at the same sex.

So i deffo think its to do with the enviroment

Do you reckon Callum?

Well if that was the case surely all gay people would be ugly and I have found this to be the complete opposite.

i think ppl turn to the same sex wen something goes toally wrong in a relationship.
I know of two hetero marriages where the woman in each wonder if they are really lesbian. the interesting thing is why?

I spoke to one gay guy who also said its like the foo you like or son;t like. You might like Bolognase, but hate chiilli, no reason just don't like the taste. no matter how much someone tells u they love it.

I do believe it is a product of environment.

It was not long ago that homosecuality was an arrestable offense. Other even considered it was a mental illness. Now i would NOT go that far.
After all how does one define normality?

The same could also be true in prison. PPl who turn to other men for it, as they cannot get it from woman

Attraction doesn't necessarily mean attention. I know some really beautiful women who are incredibly shy and never have boyfriends.....or girlfriends.

That is true, but not what I meant with the above. I was referring to how being attactive doesn't necessarily mean you'll get attention from the same sex, so creatives points can ring true that they seek it from their own. I'd like to more of the research before forming an opinion on it.

Some may, but speaking from experience, after my divorce I didn't suddenly decide to go down the local pub, grab some guy's schlong and race him home.

I think many people 'turn' after a lack of affection in their lives. This person, who is likely to be shy and reserved, is a prime target for the sexual predators so often frequenting places where the shy may go in an attempt to find a friend. But, it could also happen in the lunch room at work. The shy person is soon 'converted' because they have found compelling friendship, and is prepared to sacrifice morals to retain the friendship.

I believe the homosexual 'chooses' whether express his/her emotion to their own gender. Why? We need the insight of someone out of the closet to offer 'first hand' the thought processes. Anything else is speculation.
Cheers, Nigel

Society appears to have become fixated about gays in recent years. Unfortunately, this has had an effect on other behaviours. For example, my sons liked to hold my hand when they were young. One of them still liked to do that when he was 8 or 9, and I had to wean him from it because I would get strange glances at the store.

In India, it's quite common to see men walking along holding hands. It's a cultural thing and means nothing other than a close friendship. What would we automatically think today in Britain if two guys walked along holding hands? In some places, they might even get beaten up. This just goes to show how much our culture has changed.

No one knows what how someone is gay, why they are gay, are they born gay etc. And I won't speculate on it, although many would!

There we're gay people in biblical times so it's nothing new.

I notice that we are offering opinons on gay Marriages and being gay. Are their any members of the forum who are homosexual who can offer their opinion?

I know i have my opinions, but it would be nice to hear from their side as well? not only nice, but fairer as well :-)

I think you are right steve, i seem to remember it was the advent of AIDS that really seemed to bring homosexuality out of the closet. societies total cruelness is looking for a scapegoat to blame for this terrible disease. even though heterosexuals are just as guilty for transmitting the virus as we all know.
The sad thing was it also proagated "homophobia" meaning in some cases sons felt concious about hugging their fathers etc.

A sad reality when one thinks of it

I totally disagree with a lot that's been said here. I believe the vast majority of people are gay because they're born that way. They may spends years trying to change their inner feelings but it'll come out eventually.

Yes, there will be some people who become gay through circumstance. Attention, love and respect can be very compelling if you're lacking them and as being gay is so much more accepted nowadays, its easier for people to try the lifestyle.

I have a relative who was brought up the same way as his brother but from a very early age it was clear that he would grow up to be gay. His brother is bit of a tough nut, he's gay. (And it's not a problem!)

Hayles

ps. And I also agree that if we could re-read some of these posts in years to come we'd be amazed at them!
pps. The Bible may well say man shouldn't lie with man, but doesn't it also say that a man should have slaves?

The bible mentions homosexuality a few times, what I find interesting and important to me is that Jesus doesn't mention it once! He does however have a gripe against those of us who judge!

Also with the bible it's often the person who interprets it that is wrong not the bible itself

Just throwing that into the melting pot :)

Hi agree with you Hayles, I will add that nobody is 100% heterosexual..that is why there are some people who are bi-sexual..it's not like black and white and a lot of people who hate gay are usually like this because they are afraid of their own feelings ....that's what I think !

And Jesus refers to loving a young boy, I believe.

It has been scientificly proven that gay men have a gene in their DNA from their mother, and as such are born gay. Yes some do "turn" gay, but in generally they are gay because they have a gene that causes them to fancy men rather than women.
I have a very good friend who is gay and have an insight into their way of live - most enlightening going to gay restaurant for a meal and being the only straight guy there :) (but I was sitting next to Denise Van Outen which made up for it).

Anyway, just wanted to point out that gay people are born gay. The problems about am I/am I not comes from public pressure making them doubt their feelings inside.

Cannot understand why people are all getting so ruffled about this gay thing. They are just people, doesn't matter if they were born that way or not, just leave them alone, they could be reading all these dark age threads and getting upset by the comments.

I think in all theory and fairness this like the other threads have no right or wrong answer, they are subjet of debate.
At the end of the day in all threads, we have learned of other peoples opinions and yes unfortunately as is inevitable in the circumstances offence though not intended is often made.

I have made no secret of my religous belief, and hereby declare i have nothing further to add. In a little under an hour we celebrate xmas. and whatever xmas may mean or not mean to you, i wish you the very best of seasons greetings

I apologise for any offense i have caused anyone, religeous, gay or otherwise.
Now in the spirit of Christmas Can i we now please declare these threads closed?
