Domain registration

I received a message from the Global Domain Name Registration Center in Hong Kong stating that a third party wishes to apply for domains under:

com, org.uk, etc.

etc.

but domain under co.uk is registered under my name.

I am asked if I wish to register the other domains with the 'pjcbookkeeping' keyword to 'protect' my website. Do I really need to do this?

Any of your thoughts appreciated.

sounds dodgy to be honnest, if you do want to register the other domains use a uk based company

Ignore it. There's no such 'third party' who are interested in your domains, the letters/emails sent out are automated spam, just to scare you into buying domain names from that company, at probably extortionate prices.

If you do want to protect your brand/business name and buy up the other TLD's, don't do it through a company that spammed you.

Yep agreed just spam. Ignore messages like this, we get them almost every week.

I have received a similar email stating a third party etc, it appears domains are big business in hong kong, completely ignore it, and do not give them any card details.

I can confirm this a phising scam please ignore it . We recevied it couple of months ago.

I am having fun with a similar Chinese scam at present. They sent me the email about four or five weeks ago and I said I would get back to them after discussing it with my colleagues. A week later they got back to me again and I said it was still under discussion.

A few days later the same thing happened and again I told them we were still undecided. I got another just the other day saying that they could not hold the domain much longer. I told them we were closing for the holidays or something and that I would get back them in the new year. :D:p:D

Someone should design a form with an extensive questionnaire that we can all send to these scammers asking them a list of apparently relevant questions. If everyone who received these took some action that wasted some of the scammers time they may get the message that we are not all stupid.

bdw, was your experience about them trying to sell you the other TLDs of your domain name? Just remember they don't have exclusive access to those domains, so if you feel at all pressured by it (or you even feel you want to take them up on the offer), just go buy them from a reputable seller who doesn't spam you.

There's also no need to tell spammers "you'll get back to them later"

I had an inkling that something was not quite right about that email I received. I was communicating with someone called Kelly Brook (no, not that one!;)) from Hong Kong.

I sent an email yesterday asking where is this third party based (all I wanted to know is it British?) and also asked why could not the third party choose a different domain name?

Their reply this morning states they cannot reveal where the third party is based due to DP and they didn't answer the second question! But now they seem desparate for me to submit an application form for the registration of the other domains.

ignore it. they do this to make you buy those domain names.

Yes, they did try to sell me the other TLDs but my business is website design so I do fully understand what's happening. ;)
