Depends... on the crisis management front, if a client rang and told me that they had just been accused of sleeping with a family pet and the papers had it on film then yeah, guess so... but that seldom happens (anymore - you know who you are !)

I cover most tech support over christmas (the techies have time of) but it really means just checking things during commercial breaks. Probably about 3 hour work spread over an 18 hour period of drinking and eating.

Yea - I'll be totally forgetting work unless I get alerted that theres a server down.

I've got to finish a film script by the end of this month and I've still a lot of work to do. So, my mind will be on things such as dialogue and plot structure etc while eating Christmas dinner. :)

But out of yours and Jaynes, what ones are the most informative and how many are in the time out section? Thats the real test of a true poster.

I couldn't say, but I do spend a fair amount of time in the IT/Internet, Ecommerce & General Business forums, so I'd like to think they account for the majority of my posts. Probably just lying to myself.

I am SUPPOSED to be taking the whole week off.

Having had no holiday at all this year (unless you count a week in York hunting for business premises) and with the busiest period of the year coming up. I am under strict instructions from him indoors to relax and not even think about the business.

No chance at all of that, but I will try not to check emails every hour :D . At least now I don't work from home there is no temptation to just pop into the workshop and do an hour or so - its a half hour drive!

Hope you all have a great Christmas and a prosperous 2006.

That's true, but that refers to design work. As I don't do the actual work, it involves me speaking to the clients, marketing and keeping everything in line. The designers work their magic with my briefs. It does involve a lot more time than I'd like, but it does have its benefits. Most clients call in the evening as well to alter what was done in the day.

I've had 5 people contact me regarding work through these forums now. I'm doing my job...kinda ;)

Good for you. Although I wasn't aware it was a competition? This a place to help others, business to me is a mear bonus!

Either way I shaln't be do doing either on Christmas day as i'll be miles from civilisation let alone a net connection.

Coding Monkey
23rd December 2005, 10:35
I never said it was. They contacted me.

You just said how I wouldn't make it, I was just joking by saying people have contacted me, thus getting people by being on the forum. Thought I'd add that to avoid any argument.

I jestingly said you wouldn't make top poster and £8k a month, althouth there is a challenge laid down for you for next year :)

Just wandered, people gossip off the forum too

I think Macs like me, posts to help others and picks up business along the way. After all if were honest we all came her originally to make some cash

Jayne
23rd December 2005, 10:57
lol..not me, i was looking for brainy people to give me tips on selling my bakery on the net :D

I've learnt loads of stuff on here, it's like being at school again.

I'd say probably all of them got in contact after I gave someone advice on something, but that's not to say I did it to get the contact, I was just offering advice. Talk to enough people about something you know about, you're naturally one they'd speak to about that subject.

And Claire, I read that as "I think Mac likes me". Was nodding all the way through ;)

Rob Holmes

Nope - I came here to help and be helped.

Any business is a bonus but my intentions are to just help whenever I can with whatever I can.

There's always going to be a fine line between what people consider out right sales pitches and helping. There are many people here who I feel I could help out more, but I've never PM'd them to say it unless they asked.

I don't want it to come across that I'm here purely for business, as I've met loads of really nice people who I enjoy talking to and gladly give our free advice to help people. But Claire does have a point. They're business forums.

Anyway, Christmas....

So your all telling me you sat at your desk and thought to yourself.....I want to find a forum where I can help people. I know lets google and find a business forum so I can share my wealth of knowledge and expertise.

Rubbish

You all stumbled across this site, whilst looking for somewhere to promote your business and then realised what a nice friendly place it was and stuck around.

Anyone read my testimonial from Heart Solutions?

I am here to help and advise people on here, however, what I am hoping long term is that my name becomes synomonous with debt and if ever anyone mentions any problems they are having I would hope you would refer them to me.

But it's great fun on here, if it drums up business and is entertaining as well, who cares who contacted who, or how many contacts you have made.

Phew, Im all out of breath now!

Nic

I did actually come here to see how people run their business, and take advice and tips BUT, you do find yourself promoting your business in the process.

Wonder how many people do sign up though to promote their business rather than actually come and learn..

Edited: because I might get told off :D
