My SEO contract has now expired.
I have been recommended this company through someone else and they also do SEO for one of our biggest Keyword competitors.

I am not looking for all you SEO gurus to tout your wears on here :p (lol). I would just like to know if anyone has had any dealings with them or have any experience or heard anything about them? Anything really as I am struggling to find any reviews on them. (Maybe they have SEO-ed them all into the pit of page 10?!) lol
Hopefully I will get some decent responses to aid my decision. :D

They are the shirt sponsors of Stockport County FC but don't hold that against them

Would the conflict of interest not apply? If your competitor didn't rank as high as you or vice versa.
Otherwise heard nothing good or bad about the company. Recommendation is always best so go with your gut.

Hi
I've picked up a couple of their ex clients and although I haven't asked why they left them, suffice to say they looked elsewhere (this isn't necessarily an indicator of untoward problems). Personally, I haven't actually heard bad things about them but then again I don't spend time researching other seo companies except for the crap ones I've had personal experience of. From memory, I think there's been talk on here previously about JS but I can't remember the thrust of it so it's worth doing a search around.
It can be a very frustrating time trying to locate a decent seo company and if I can get stung on the odd occasion then you'll need to watch carefully and make "absolutely sure" you check out whoever you use by getting contact details of clients (make sure you ring them) and ranking performance (make sure you check them). Point to note: There are some very good seo's who won't give out this sort of info and you shouldn't automatically assume this is a bad signal. Just do the best you can in the circumstances you find yourself in.
Not sure that helps but good luck anyway.

If they have any kind of quality to their business, then they will turn down your work as a conflict of interest. They can't provide the best results for your business and the best results for a competitors.

Thats what I thought.
If they are representing a competitor they how can they realistically represent us both fairly?
Surely this would be unethical whatever that means nowadays?

You would think so, but then there is only their own company morals stopping them from providing you the service.
Manybe they use the old broking expression of 'Chinese Walls'!!
PS what was so bad with your current company?

Quite who do they decide goes No1.:D
Huge difference No1 site has 3.5 x the traffic of No2.;)
I simply do not take competing sites on.

And if they don't have those morals in place, then it should ring major alarm bells.

you have the potential for a top 3 position for "pool tables" with the right SEO.
But gonna have a bit of a job unseating the No1 site.

I have some personal experience of using just search for SEO, it was not good. Very little seemed to happen over the course of 9 months and any queries I sent them were basically fobbed off. They claimed they were doing this and that but sent me no real report of what they were doing, just ranking reports which showed things going from bad to worse.
In the end i spent 3 days compiling my own reports and offsetting my findings against anything I could find written about what they should have or claimed they had done. They had basically done nothing for 9 months but obviously still kept taking payment.
I made my case to them using my home made reports and after a week or 2 of arguing they offered to correct it but I demanded money back and retrieved about 95% of it.
Another chap i was talking to had very similar problems at the same time as me, he elected to have them continue and make up for it. Last time I spoke to him he had regretted this and was now pursuing a refund.

That doesn't sound good!!
At least they were good enough to return most of your money.
I spend half my time trying to prove what can and can't be done...all because of inflated promises or some in the industry!!

Good enough after I argued about it, then only in 3 monthly instalments the second of which was short and the third non existant. Several more months of phoning them to find a new person in the job nearly every time I phoned who had to start all over again. Got it all in the end but I had to be patient and persistant.
I would not accuse them of making inflated promises what they said checked out with advice I had read on here and they promised no actual results just the work. The problem was they did nothing and just kept fobbing me off when I asked.

Inflated promises, or not doing the work, the end result is the same. No improvement in ranking...

I would disgaree with that ... it depends on the size of the market.
Ethics in this is can I give you a return on investment? ie can you get £10 for returned sales for everyone £1 you spend with me.
In most markest this is possible with multiple clients. Occassionally it wont be.
Its also happens that you knoweldge of particlar marketplace that means you end up doing better on both clients.

My boss had a very bad experience of these guys, and a couple of other people ive talked to on fourms.
Obviously they have some ability within the company due to there position. My feel is that they have more customers than they known what to do with.

There is a huge difference to the number of visitors, when ranked first and second for keywords....So which client would you aim at getting number one and number two?
What would be your reasonaing that one is one and the other is second, in your feedback to the respective cleint.

Probably a bit of a sideline but we don't have minimum contract duration with our SEO clients as we feel they should be able to stop and start as they please. Are we in the minority here or does everyone else do the same?

I work hard and equally on both sites are just see how it dropped. There are alot of factors outside my control that will effect how these campaigns go.
Also you look at a different emphasis in keyword selection, its very rare that one keyword in a marketpalce tajkes up all the traffic.
If ive dominate a marketplace for the top 2 positions in every concievable term, both clients would be makiing so much money that they wouldn't want to leave me.
When I worked for a big agency we ran car insurance clients any one of them would be delighted for a top 10 position on car insurance.
i cansee why people ask the question,. but in reality you are better served by an SEO consultant who understands the market your in.

Untill death do us part.
But then I make damn sure I only get involved in the right business.
Keeps me on me toes.
I don't think of myself as just an SEO more of a business builder.
Hence If I double the profits of a multi million pound business .
Then what price that.?

Hi,
Inflated promises always ruin your confidence of getting ahead and think about to take the decision. so, it is important for us to go for some refferings so that we never face such problems because SEO is all about implementing ethical processes so that to get relevant and ethical traffic with the top 10 ranking of the web site.
According to me I strongly prefer to go for complete profile of a company that is providing SEO services as to go through the plans, services strong portfolio which will provide you with the details of how they are serving their clients and what is the client base. so by this you can evaluate the services on your terms.
This is what a suggestion that is really very helpful at every prospect.
Thanks!
