it doesnt matter so much where you ftp FROM, if the 2k3 box has an ftp server running on it then it is irrelevant what client connects. I know zilch about macs but I know a bloke that does ;) he isnt online now but if you dont have any replies by the morning I'll give hime a ring, if he doesnt know a decent ftp client for mac then no one will !

Try Interarchy (http://www.stairways.com/main/download). Then upgrade to OS X ;)

Hi,
I have spoken very briefly to him, he is tied up but says either fetch or goliath, he seems to recall that goliath might be free but not 100% sure, I'll call him again later in the day if goliath is no use. I need to nip out now so cant google it for you or I would have done prior to posting. Please post back if you n eed more assistance.

Thanks to Macmyday and Confused. I have downloaded both Fetch4 and the one Macmyday suggested - both free.
Yes, want to upgrade to OSX but not sure if my system meets the minimum spec. I have Powerbook G4 500mhz 20GB 256 RAM. A rather old machien but then again I only use it for occasional use until now when I am overseas and now dependent on it.
Is it possible to upgrade the OS on the web without the need for CD etc?
I am yet to find a good browser. Currently using IE5.1 for MAC and Opera. Both do not function too well. Cannot download Firefox because my OS is a little old.

I personally wouldn't recommend upgrading because of the amount of RAM you have combined with the processor. I'd put a limit of 1GHz G4, 512Mb RAM for OS X truly to run well. Also, do you have a DVD drive, as OS X Tiger is on a DVD, from what I recall.
Something for you to be aware of about IE Mac (http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/internetexplorer/internetexplorer.aspx?pid=internetexplorer)
There's a lot of rumours around about new Intel powered iBooks in January, so might be an ideal time to buy a new one

Oh s**t! My browser becoming obsolete in less than 10 days!! Is there another browser I could use, MS are saying Apple Safari but I think the OS is a tad too old.
I have always wondered whether MAC machines can actually be upgraded i.e. increasing RAM etc just like Windows. Or would I have to get a new machine?
When I get back to the UK I am thinking about going back to DELL laptops but I know they are prone to crashing more than a MAC hence purchasing this MAC

You can upgrade the RAM, just not the processor etc on a laptop, yet the case is the same on basically all of them.
OS X is a completely different operating system than OS 9.2. They're so different you wouldn't believe they're made by the same company. OS X is simply a sheer masterpiece. Everything works so well together, never crashes, no virus', spyware etc to worry about (not saying they don't exist, but you'd have to almost go looking for one to get it) and fantastic in built applications.
Safari is only available on OS X, but IE Mac will still work. It's really been dead for the last 3 years since Apple released Safari as they've not updated it since, but now it's just official. It will (hopefully) mean developers won't have to make anything work in IE Mac within a year or so.
Check out CWOnline iBooks (http://cwonline.co.uk/index.tpl?cart=11352570003541389&type=ibook&feature=computer-feature&listing=comp) and see whether it's within your budget.

Macmyday, thanks for the useful link. They are actually based near us! Well, Im in Eatern Europe at mo so will have to hold the order. The iBook looks very tempting to buy and certainly affordable. I paid about £750 for my powerbookG4 on Ebay about 2 years ago.
I am just in a dilemma whether to go back to a Win laptop i.e. DELL. I guess a MAC is more reliable than a Win laptop which may be prone to crashing. and as you say viruses etc - not had one on this MAC
I suppose your input has confirmed my view to get a MAC with the latest OS and larger memory. Not sure whether to get a powerbook instead - more expensive!
Lets hope Santa brings me one!

I wouldn't get a PowerBook, there's almost no difference between an iBook and PowerBook at the moment. Wait until 11th January (I think that's the date) when Steve Job goes his Keynote speech. That's when new products are generally released and they expect a new 13" iBook with Intel processor.
I was using Windows from 3.1 until XP, yet just one day randomly decided to buy a Mac on 10.1 with 9.2 also installed. I've never looked at a Windows machine again. OS X is simply an engineering breakthrough. I sincerely could not come up with any improvements providing you have a fast enough machine.
iPhoto, iMovie, iTunes, iCal etc are just fantastic and all built-in. I only have 2 programs that aren't preinstalled on OS X on this computer. Microsoft Word and Messenger. No need for anything else, as they're all integrated and just work.
I should earn a commission from Apple for this!

Im not going to start a Mac vs Windows debate, I have only used a mac once. From windows 2000 onwards, windows has become much better in terms of speed and stability, Im a windows person lol. Did you get your FTP problem sorted?

Thanks to Macmyday and Confused for assistance. I have not yet attempted a FTP connection - will do that later. I am just now sourcing a good CMS to buy for our server ready for building 5 sites queued up. Trying to work out which CMS the http://www.handsonaccess.com website is using.
Do either of you know how to do screenshots? Is any special software required? I need to do a screenshot of some websites we have done.
Thanks
Re Mac v. Windows - from experience it very much depends on your needs and preference. Its good for my use. A friend asked if I would recommend the MAC or Win for his family. I said Win, suitable for children and cheaper/easier upgrades.

Hi,
I totally agree with your last comments on Mac vs Windows
As for screenshots, on a windows box, press prt/scrn the contents of the screen are then copied onto the clipboard and can be pasted as you usually would. If you want just a single window, i.e. a browser window, application or whatever, hold ALT whilst pressing print scrn.
Im sorry but I have no clue how to do that on a Mac.

On a Mac (in OS X anyway) you do Command (Apple) + Shift + 3 or 4. I'm sure there was an application in 9.2 that allowed you to do it.

Absolutely with Tom on this one. I switched from Windows to Mac six years ago. It's just such a massive difference. But get on to Tiger ASAP - 9.1 is barely catered for anymore. If you really need an FTP client for a couple of days, I don't think Interarchy is available for 9.1 - you'd have to get Anarchie, its predecessor. Check with Tom.

Have set up and used Fetch4 and it works well. Its only a 15-day free trial. Noticed I had HeftyFTP already installed. Planning to get a new mac anyway.
Thanks
