When I first moved in to my unit about 6 months ago I applied for a grant to help with rent. I was told it will be fine but there's no money left. So I've been waiting all this time for some money and then gets a leter from them saying because my unit has permission for wholesaling and manufacturing and not just retail then they can't give me the grant! Same for an advertising grant! What a load of s**t!

Hi there, get used to it, I have been in business for 5 years now and have never been eligible for any kind of grant or funding, I am always in the wrong region/sector or postcode area, its a joke.

My local Business Link made an appointment with a small business advisor who knew nothing about online businesses, infact, I felt as though the only person that gained from the meeting was the business advisor who learnt a lot from me.

**rant over**

Good luck with everything though.

I can't complain too much I guess because a couple of years back I did get a startup grant of £3.5k. This was through a different agency though.

12 years of trying for me and not one yet!

I've stopped trying now.

How do you go about finding companies that offer you money? Also, what would they want in return? Surely you have to have achieved something to be given a grant?

They get so much money from the government - it's not a company as such. Contact your local business link or find an agent similar to see what you can get.

Aparantly I'm "entitled" to a grant of £1600, there are some criteria I have to meet, business plan, attend certain get togethers etc then in theory I'll be able to get the money. I hope so as I really need to get some advertising done and a lot of it will go on that I should think. As for the postcode check, my home address didnt check out, but the business address did, the business advisor said I could use either to apply for the grant if one or the other didnt show in the magix list of his.
