I am looking to start a new service for my existing business. The new service will need a part-time salesman to bring in a few trial customers.

As the new service will be sold by advertising and word of mouth after the initial stage, this will not develop into a full time sales role. We estimate the salesman might spend an hour or two a day bringing in trial clients, amongst his/her other outside work, for a period of three to four weeks.

What is the best way to find a decent part-time salesman, rewarded very well on a commission-only basis ?

I think you may be asking too much - in that a couple of hours a day is too little of anyones's time for just a few weeks. can you not spare the time yourself? You may well be more convincing than any saleman you would have to brief etc.

A few hours per week doesn't sound like enough time to me. Bringing on clients from scratch take a lot of time and effort than that.

Time and time again there are posts on here asking for the elusive commission only sales people - we found one who to be honest is worth his weight in gold and he is now on a basic salary plus commissions but it is very difficult.

Are they going to be doing this venture from their own home or your premises? If it's from their own homes are they using their own broadband and phone line or are you supplying?

Point taken.
Thanks all for the comments and advice.

Use something like People Per Hour (Google it). They have sales people available and they have been rated by others so you can assess whether they are any good or not.

I have used the site to find quite a number of freelancers in the past. Some good. Some bad. Even if it takes you a couple of goes then it is still less risk than taking someone on.
